The term limits debate cannot be had without a sweeping anti lobbyist/corruption bill coinciding. Without senior senators and house members the lobbyists will be the most seasoned people on the hill and they’ll have more power than they have now to take new members under their wing.

It’s one of those talking points that people think sounds good and makes them feel high and mighty but their argument is very shallow and devoid of contextual logic.

I don't buy that. They are keeping these old farts in power because they own them and when you own senior leaders you own committee appointments and then own the entire process. . If you have to buy new leaders every 10 years it costs you more and your influence goes down.

Do you know what is less likely than term limits?

Yeah none of them are here, pal. She jumped the shark months if not years ago, we need to get the senile people out of government.

I am fine with what I said. You focus on you.

What kind of whiny b**** goes on an internet and gets upset about someone who says it isn’t classy to complain about decorum over someone recently passing away.

And if they aren’t here somehow that makes it better?

Class isn’t about whether you actually are addressing the person it is how you treat people in general. Yes you and the other persons can do what you like and I’m certainly not reporting anyone for speaking ill of Dianne Feinstein on her death. For me
Personally I’m not going to revel or wish the deaths of political opponents.

I don't normally agree with DD, but people die everyday. There is nothing special about a certain inidividual in this thread that makes him/her better than others. in fact the role the individual is in necessitates that they be critiqued

Of cours people die every day doesn’t mean it is classy to mock them when they do. You were just criticizing SamFisher in the Ukraine thread over what you
Perceive as his joy in deaths. Are you now saying you’re fine with that because it’s DD?

    It's partly this, yes.

It's also engineered to be this way.

A duopoly gives even more power to incumbency, because the only real challenge, especially in very partisan districts, comes from the primary system, which is extremely narrow in terms of reach.

We're going to see more and more of a gerontocracy as time passes, which is amazing because we're already at a pretty ridiculous point in terms of average Congress member age.

In the near term, Congress needs term limits and Supreme Court appointments should be a fixed time period, and if we're being honest with ourselves the Presidency ought to have an age limit as well.

I actually never criticized Sam fisher specifically on that you’re confusing me with someone else, and yes there is a scale don’t walk around with a head GoT style.

you’re being insanely sensitive and if not, taking your virtue signaling too far. People elected to office are to be critiqued as well. Especially people that hold on to seats 80-90 years of age (selfish imo). It’s actually quite dangerous to vindicate them of any criticism just because they’ve died

While I understand the sentiment behind "Geez about time" (DD's words) may be frustration over a politician's long tenure, it can come across as celebrating their death. Critiquing this statement isn't about being overly sensitive or virtue signaling (or suggesting that someone cannot be critiqued after death), but rather a call for maintaining respect and empathy when discussing someone's passing. Many people still believe that's important.

Decorum policing over politics on an internet forum does feel a bit like pissing on a forest fire.

The horse that has made everyone so demented left the barn a long time ago.

Maybe I'm too jaded, but I'd rather people be forthright about their character and thoughts.

I disagree, elected officials are held to higher standard of critique and my point stands that your everyday joes don’t get a fraction of the sympathy. She’ll get a moment of silence in Congress , a funeral attended by the same rotton people.

an internet comment is essentially non-existent in this space. If someone is that sensitive they need to read obituaries on a regular and send thoughts and prayers for everyone

Dear Jesus, I pray that you smite the following for the good of the world.

Take Donald Trump the stupid people follow him and refuse to acknowledge his criminal activities - I know that Satan has empowered him which explains the sex with the two 13 year old girls he had - or the fraud he committed with his casinos and fake charities.

But for the sake of mankind he needs to die, and the sooner the better.

    Amen.

Why do they cling to power to the very last seconds of life
Why are the trying to make decisions that won't ever affect them
just trying to control people from beyond the grave

90 yrs old . . . rest in peace. . . but should have retired 15 yrs ago

It doesn't hurt to keep it classy. I'd rather piss on Cheney or Trump's casket when they're on the one-day express to Hell but doesn't mean I'll say it right away.

Folks on here generally do follow those norms (by not doing it or calling folks out for staying classy) even if the deceased led to a ****load people dying.

Maybe it'll be a boomer millennial thing. Many customs from the internet gradually bleeds into reality. We're probably all better off for trying.
