Unlike Houston, Phoenix chooses not to be put in a position where they have to admit that building a stadium complete with a retractable roof was a waste of taxpayer money. Why even have a retractable roof if you're never gonna open it?

The Astros used to open it plenty. Believe it or not, it’s just persistently hotter now than in was 2000-2004ish. They’ve also factored the humidor into keeping the ballpark as fair as possible (and it’s actually trended towards a pitchers park).

that being said, they could certainly open it more in April/May.
