My impression of dusty is that he will intentionally not play the line up the front office wants just to send a message that he makes the decisions
I have a really bad feeling that Dusty is the baseball version of Bill O'Brien and will chase out another GM in favor for himself.
I don't think that would happen twice. He already ran off Click but it seemed Crane had his own issues with Click. For the second year in a row, if Dusty is once again in conflict with the GM, Dusty will be the one to get run off this time. Like the saying goes: "if you drive by an a-hole on the way to work, that guy's an a-hole. If you drive by 10 a-holes on the way to work, YOU are the a-hole."
Also, keep in mind: Crane seems to love surrounding himself with athletes, and Dana Brown is an ex-minor league who played in college (Seton Hall - wait, did he play with Biggio?) So whatever the issues with Click, him being an outsider was undoubtedly an issue as I'm sure the Bagwells of the world were telling Crane he had too many nerds in his organization. *If* there's a power play, I believe Brown will be incredibly fortified.
Yes he played with Biggio. Brown was Crane's choice after a thorough search and interview process. Click was a fallback after a rushed process. Crane isn't firing Brown within 3 years. It would reflect badly on him. He also hears what people are saying and knows baseball- hecsees what Dusty is doing. Dusty is gone. Brown is back.
Just listened to the full clip... not incendiary at all. Dana goes on to acknowledge that Dusty knows the pulse of the players and their rhythms and such.
He literally scratched France for Urquidy so he could justify playing maldonado instead of Diaz. still- we will always have September 10th, the day Dusty played our best 9 in the org. The only day it happened all year. We scored 12 and won easily. Completely makes sense to never try it again.
We can all play couch manager and scrutinize Dusty for his decision making and rightfully so - in many of his decisions/lineups. But to suggest he scratched France to play Urquidy to justify playing Maldonado is ludicrous.
France scratched for family reasons... Stanek on paternity leave... some things are more important than baseball, believe it or not.
