Politicians shouldn't be dying in office due to old age. This is why there is a growing support for term limits. We all know why this happens which only further supports the dysfunctional role current political parties play in government.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom is expected to appoint an interim senator to fill the vacancy created by the death Thursday of longtime Sen. Dianne Feinstein— but he has said
he would not consider any of the high-profile Democrats who for months have been vying to replace her.

“I don’t want to get involved in the primary,” Newsom has said
"It would be completely unfair to the Democrats that have worked their tail off.
    That prim
ary is just a matter of months away. I don’t want to tip the balance of that."
With Feinstein’s death, Newsom is expected to make an interim appointment and schedule a special primary and election for someone to serve the rest of Feinstein’s term,
which ends in January 2025. The special election would be quickly followed by a regular primary and regular election for the seat.

Well that is a different issue than the one I was responding to. I was saying that there are many successful people across different industries that have decided that they do not want a retirement, or if they do, it will be a soft retirement. A lot of people would rather keep living like they are until they die - like Feinstein died.

As for politicians dying in office, the early Baby Boomers have a disproportionate control of American politics and power throughout the country. They have largely not stepped away or given up power.

As far as us not wanting politicians dying in office from old age - there have actually been a lot of Senators that have died in office over the last 250 years. I want to say it is well over several hundred. So I do not know that this is a new problem.

I do have concerns that the leaders of the two political parties in the USA are 80 and 77 years old........ and the most skilled and powerful Senate leaders are 81 years old and 73 years old...... and the most skilled politician in the House is 83 years old.

I do not agree with term limits though.

Nah - she just voted "aye" for the Senate bill to increase funding for 9/11 first responders.

My guess is that they will try to get some more legislation passed before the Republicans figure out that she is dead.

RIP. Senator Dianne Feinstein made history as the oldest serving member of Congress at age 90. I'm okay if her longevity record is eventually broken by another lawmaker. In fact, I hope it will be broken.

As usual, you are completely wrong. Biden's friendship with McCain spanned over many years. McCain was widely praised among Democrats for standing up to the person at one of his campaign events when a woman called Obama a Arab. Obama later spoke at McCain's funeral and often praised McCain. Biden is also famous for showing on the View and comforting Meghan McClain, who later said she and Biden talk all the time.

And McCain was very popular and respected for saving the ACA.

Of course, as a fervent trump supporter, you don't understand that the ability to disagree politically doesn't preclude respecting and even liking each other personally. Instead, you simply see hate. More recently, maga types are attacking Dana Perino for introducing Hilary Clinton as "amazing."

Geez about time, now Grasserly needs to croak, and McConnel, and anyone that is too flipping old to remember their damned name.

While mocking and criticizing someone when they’ve just died is?

I was one of those who thought Fienstein should’ve stepped down months ago. At the same time I’ve also not always agreed with her positions. That doesn’t mean I’m going to celebrate her death. At the minimum this is tragedy for her friends and family and tributes being made to her even by Republicans like Marsha Blackburn

Marsha Blackburn was diametrically opposed to Feinstein on many issues yet she still was willing to praise her memory. It shows that not everything is partisan and tribal.
