    Shivanthi Sathananandan
    A Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party official who once vowed to “dismantle” the Minneapolis Police Department is now calling for tougher crime laws after she was beaten and bloodied in a carjacking outside her home this week.

    Shivanthi Sathanandan, the second vice chairwoman for the DFL, shared news of her attack in a Wednesday Facebook post, where she fumed that the four young suspects need to be brought to justice.

    “I have a broken leg, deep lacerations on my head, bruising, and cuts all over my body. And I have rage,” wrote Sathanandan, who said the beating occurred in front of her 4-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

    “These men knew what they were doing. I have NO DOUBT they have done this before. Yet they are still on OUR STREETS. Killing mothers. Giving babies psychological trauma that a lifetime of therapy cannot ease. With no hesitation and no remorse,” Sathanandan continued.

    Included in the post was a selfie of Sathanandan, showing blood pouring down the right side of her face.

    Josh Kruger
    Philadelphia journalist and advocate Josh Kruger was shot and killed at his home early Monday morning, according to police.

    No weapons were recovered and there have been no arrests, a statement from police says.

    Kruger, 39, was shot seven times in the chest and abdomen at his Point Breeze home at around 1:28 a.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at the hospital.

    Pava LaPere, the CEO and founder of EcoMap Technologies, was found dead about 11:30 a.m. Monday at an apartment with apparent signs of “blunt-force trauma,” police said.

    Police said Tuesday they had issued an arrest warrant for Jason Billingsley on first-degree murder and additional charges.

    Officials said Billingsley, 32, of Baltimore, should be considered armed and dangerous.

    In 2015, Billingsley was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with 16 years suspended, after he pleaded guilty to a first-degree sex offense, court records show.

    The Maryland sex offender registry shows he was released from prison in October. The registry classified him in "tier 3," which includes the most serious charges and requires offenders to register for life.

    Ryan Carson
    Police said Carson was stabbed at around 4 a.m. about a mile away at Lafayette Avenue and Malcom X Boulevard.

    Sources said Carson was standing on the street with his girlfriend when the suspect approached and asked, "What are you looking at?" before stabbing Carson in the chest multiple times.

    Carson was pronounced dead at Kings County Hospital.

    Henry Cuellar
    Representative Henry Cuellar, Democrat of Texas, was held up at gunpoint and his vehicle was stolen in Washington on Monday evening, according to his office. He was not harmed and police later recovered the vehicle.

    Mr. Cuellar was parking on Monday at 9:30 p.m. in the Navy Yard neighborhood, about a mile from Capitol Hill, when three armed people approached him and stole his vehicle, said Jacob Hochberg, the congressman’s chief of staff. The Metropolitan Police Department and Capitol Police are investigating the crime, he said.

    Mr. Cuellar’s iPad and iPhone were also stolen, Mr. Hochberg said. He did not say whether the devices had been recovered.

    Philadelphia police named Robert Davis, 19, as the suspect in the death of freelance reporter Josh Kruger in his Point Breeze neighborhood.

    Davis allegedly shot Kruger seven times in the chest and abdomen while the journalist stood at the base of his stairs inside his home around 1:30 a.m. on Monday as the teen fled the area.

    “At this time we believe that Mr. Kruger was trying to help Mr. Davis, and they were acquaintances,” said Philadelphia Police Department Lieutenant Hamilton Marshmond. “He was just trying to help him just get through life.”

    An arrest warrant was issued for Davis, who is wanted for “murder and related offenses.”

    NEW: Liberal journalist Josh Kruger who was killed in Philadelphia last week, was murdered by teenager Robert Davis who was allegedly raped by Kruger as a 15 year old. Davis’ family claims their son started having a drug-fueled sexual relationship with Kruger when he was 15. Kruger was 39 when he was killed.
