Whether you agreed with Feinstein or not this is certainly sad for her friends and families. I was one of those who felt she should've stepped down months ago that doesn't mean I take any pleasure in her death. That is where we are at though now. If members of his own party could mock and ridicule John McCain when he died it should be expected.

Ultimately, what we say, write and do is part of our respective legacies. You chose this as yours.

Working until you drop dead is quite jarring. Even if a politician career seems like there's not much to do I can't forsee the majority of Americans wanting to work that long.

Money and your belonging doesn't follow you into the afterlife

I was born in SF and raised in the bay area, so Diane Feinstein's political career spanned most of that. From the time she replaced George Moscone as mayor (bringing calm leadership to a city under sorrow and turmoil) to the many years she represented the area as Senator she was an effective and respected voice for the people she represented. Its a shame that we are now in a place where our leaders have failed us in so many ways (and not just politically), so her work and life will be the source of continued partisan squabbling. Since in reality she was a true giant.

RIP, she had been a public servant since 1969,

not every non-Democrat is a low-life like Commodore, as evidenced by this classy post by a Republican Senator

President Biden recently gave a touching speech about how he misses, and the country misses John McCain. Seems that sort of affection and respect that crosses the partisan (and even with party) divide is way too rare now.

    Feinstein, a trail blazer

Senator Dianne Feinstein is a trailblazer. She shattered glass ceiling after glass ceiling throughout her career: the first woman
    • mayor of San Francisco,
    • Senator from California,
    • to chair the Senate Rules Committee and the Senate Intelligence Committee, and more.

    RIP.

I am forced to reverse my stance on replacing Feinstein before the next election. I think she can no longer effectively serve and needs to be replaced.

    I disagree.

I have seen a real shift. A lot of people in the 1950's started looking forward to quiet retirement, and it was something that a lot of Americans aspired to. I am seeing a lot of people that have money deciding to not retire, because they either like what they do or because they are afraid if they stop - they will die.

The way she went out isn't the worse. She didn't spend years in an old folks home, or fight off illnesses in pain. She clearly faded, but for the most part went out on her own terms and not in constant misery.
