They seem to be voting for them. I mean these people in rural america whose entire existence is based subsidies vote for the republicans.

Which is sad in it's self but when you only watch fox news or other right wing leaning media that only make the left look bad they will continue to vote for the wrong side that has shown they don't give a hoot about them.

The Senate already has a bipartisan bill (77-19) to keep the government open, one that is based on the clear funding plan agreed upon by McCarthy and Biden back in May. McCarthy could simply bring that bill up, and it will pass the House. But he's refusing to do so.

Whatever story and excuses you want to tell, if there is a shutdown, and this is looking very likely that there will be one, it's because the MAGA wing of the House wants to have a shutdown (as you said, MAGA believe no government is better than the current government), and McCarthy cannot get over that hump. Americans will see through all these excuses and rightfully blame MAGA.

they believe what they want to believe and that isn’t going to change anytime soon. You have a dumb voting cohort that doesn’t believe in information, education, science or facts.

And this is an issue that has bedeviled US politics. You have much of Rural America that has been hollowed out by policies passed by Republicans. Trump’s trade war was disastrous to many ag communities while policies favoring banking deregulation has sped up the loss of family farms. We’ve seen with Biden policies on infrastructure help rural communities yet he and Democrats do poorly in most rural
    Areas.

This has been the success of pushing social issues and cultural based grievances. Somehow farm foreclosures are less of an issue than that the Southern Border is being overrun.

I also think the rural areas in the country vote as their previous generations voted... "my daddy was a republican, my granddaddy was a republican, and I will vote as a republican".

Furloughed means they'll eventually get paid back though.

I hope gov workers have learned to save for a couple months as this isn't everyone's first Shutdown Rodeo...

Or their options are to behave like normal adults instead of incoherent buffoons.

These shutdowns are terrible for the country but good for Democrats in the short term - they have a good way of reminding voters of the Republican brand and how you can't trust people like this.

It's also very well timed for the VA state Senate elections.

I'm no horse race politics guy but good to see the fascist party generally loses elections after this happens.

    Let's hope it continues.

I don’t think that is exactly the case. Northern Minnesota 20 years ago was a Democratic stronghold. Now it is the most Republican part of the state.
