It's not on pedigree but week by week play. He's been below average playing on one leg, a 62 rating. Burrow's toughness should never be questioned after this season.
I get it but it's still strange to me. Burrow coming off a victory while Love is like at 50% accuracy this year.
I'm sure there are more rankings with Burrow at 8 and Love at 12. But this one fits my Stroud and Texans agenda perfectly.
Thank you for bringing this up. Stroud has never been a running QB or whatever the stereotype of Black QBs are. In fact, he scrambled so little that it actually frustrated OSU fans (and his coach) when he was in college. The one game where he actually ran was against UGA, and it killed them. Before that game, I was skeptical of him as an NFL QB; after I saw him play the way he did against UGA, I knew he would be successful. Pretty much everyone on the UGA D is an NFL first or second rounder. He destroyed them.
I saw a list from another site last week that has Stroud at like 29, behind so many bad quarterbacks. While fun to read, these things are just designed as click magnets.
Its nice to have a QB. NFL Live just did a whole segment on the Texans where they were rubbing one off to Stroud and Demeco. Its been a while. God, I hope the Astros can make the postseason and get to the Halloween segment that MLB network does. Its always such a treat to watch.
This is great. It shows me 3 things: 1. The Shanahan Tree knows how to scheme for a great QB in a clean pocket. That’s football 101 right there and shows this is less likely to be flash in the pan. 2. Stroud fits this scheme better than anyone, easy throws for an accurate qb? Yes please. 3. Classic Texans “we’re really good at something we can’t do” … cool.
It tells me that it may be a bit of a small sample size, and I hope he can keep this up with more opportunity.
This is what its all about. If you can perform when things get uncomfortable then you will perform when things are optimal. This verifies the eye test of CJ hanging in there and not bailing out on a play and delivering balls that other QBs would eat under pressure. He's especially good at this on critical downs which is an even bigger aspect of winning football. We need to go all out investing in the offensive line for this kid.
I keep trying to temper my excitement a little bit and remind myself that the tail end of 2021 made me think Davis Mills was going to be a superstar QB for this team. We all know how that ended. I realize that CJ's situation is very different but I wish I had a better recollection of the things Davis Mills was doing those final 5 games of 2021 that seemed so promising so I could compare against what Stroud has done so far. I would imagine the anticipation type throws are heavily in Stroud's favor, and probably fewer mistakes as well. To be clear, I'm still convinced we have now solved our QB problem for the foreseeable future, but there is always that small chance that what we are seeing is fool's gold and Stroud regresses. I hope not. It would be so nice to fully put the Watson situation behind us with an even better QB.
Never had that impression about Mills, even at the end of 2021. Stroud is a top talent, so I fully expect him to progress than regress as a QB. He's shown the skills, elite anticipation, and comfort behind even a bad line that I feel good about him. Plus, I believe in this coaching staff. Hopefully it pans out, but like you I'll temper by excitement in what I've seen so far.
