I actually believe the Astros are capable of winning 4 of the next 6 with no problem, but do they WANT to? There's definitely something happening in the locker room that the fans don't know about. Today will be the test as it feels like we're down 2-0 in the playoffs. They win today with Verlander on the mound against Castillo then they just need to do it again the next day. If they lose tonight then asking this squad to mentally be ready to win the next two and 4 of the last 5 overall would be daunting.
They are definitely capable of rolling off four of the next 6. There is too much talent on this team to play this badly and eventually they would bust out. Hopefully they haven't run out of time. If we aren't winning the division I'd prefer playing the twins in the post season.
Would someone please run the numbers. How many losses to be eliminated? How many wins to get in? And I know it also has to do with what Texas and Seattle do.
Rangers 87-68 Astros 85-71 Mariners 84-71 Astros are eliminated from division if they don't win at least 2 more than the Rangers AND the same amount as the Mariners in the final week. Problem is either Rangers or Mariners are guaranteed at least 2 wins out of 7 games. As for the WC the Astros have to win at least the same number of games as the Mariners and/or 3 more than the Blue Jays.
Best case scenario: Astros sweep Mariners, Angels sweep Rangers, Yankees sweep Blue Jays. Astros 88-71 Rangers 87-71 Mariners 84-74 Blue Jays 87-72 Astros will have clinched a playoff spot because either the Mariners or Rangers would be guaranteed to lose 2 games so only 1 could mathematically pass them.
I haven't plugged all the numbers into WOPR yet, but I think that if the Astros finish with more wins than the M's and Rangers they will be in a pretty good spot.
I've given up on the division. I still think we can win that last playoff berth. And maybe that's a blessing in disguise given our putrid home record. I'm having that "Rockets go to Phoenix down 0-2" vibe right now.
You need to save your time, yet you spend your time posting how you don't believe with bad vibes in a thread entitled "The I Still Believe Thread" in which the only rule is good vibes only. I don't believe that. I do believe, however, that one should not ever underestimate the heart of a champion, and in the Houston Astros. Go 'Stros!
