If only Dusty could dictate which pitchers started against the Astros so he could pair the right pitcher against Astros starters.

Maldonado can do all the homework he wants but will still fail the test in pitch calling

He's an incredibly lazy framer and it makes our struggling pitchers worse. Maybe it's a ego thing? Like he thinks the pitches he calls are good enough and he doesn't need to put in extra effort to move his glove.

Next year is a new year.

I hope he's still around as a coach.

Nope. He's selfish and he's not good.

I rather have Jason Castro as a coach.

    Or Robinson Chirinos?

    "selfish and not good"

    What does that even mean?

    "Not good" at what?

What's he gonna coach? As long as it's a coach that won't show up when they pan to the bench.

Why wouldn't you want Maldy to help prep coach the pitchers and catchers?

Sure, if he would accept the role. But he has been very clear via social media and interviews that he takes it as a personal insult to suggest he might be replaceable or should not be the starting catcher. That competitive fire - and highly personal concern with his own performance - is fine in a player, but not in a coach.

Of course, there is also the concern that absolutely nothing validates the subjective opinion that he is good at working with pitchers. Even the pitchers that most vouch for him have a disturbing habit of imploding while he is catching. See, for example, the last game he caught.

So, while it wasn’t my quote and you may dismiss it as perfunctorily as you did the other poster, “selfish and not good” seems fairly apt based on any objective reading of the last 12 months.

    If he do, he do.

if he don't, he don't. He'd be a fine bullpen catcher guy, but I totally understand your concerns.

I'm all for new [whoever] fresh blood. Who's that gonna be? And from where?

With the obvious exception of Osuna, I'm struggling to think of an active player I liked less than Maldy. It feels like I'm rooting against him at this point. And it's not his fault his manager and owner are too stubborn to see he's not a major league player anymore. But the bottom line is the team wouldn't be in this situation if he wasn't the everyday starting catcher this year. This season has ruined any positive vibes I ever had for Maldy and left a bad taste in my mouth for his whole Astros tenure.

In terms of what exactly? I'm not comparing him to Osuna; hence, why I clarified him being the obvious exception.
