Ok Yordan not 100%. Forget my previous post.

    Think Brantley is done.

That sucks if this continues. That'll keep Diaz out of the lineup every game he doesn't catch.

.216 as a DH. I'm okay with him not being there for a bit

.214 .243 .378 .620 vs LHP. I'm ok with Maldy in this, THIS, situation.

vs Ragans, let's sample size the **** out of it:

    Diaz: 1-3, HR, K
    Maldy: 1-2, HR
    Dubon: 3-6, 3B

Brantley gonna earn about $200k per plate appearance. Solid work if you can get it.

Not his fault Dusty (or the Astros) wouldn't let him play in the majors unless he could go 2 days in a row. In my non-medical opinion, it seems like Brantley has a finite amount of swings left in his shoulder and he spent a lot of them in AAA. He then got sore playing 2 days in a row a lot instead of letting him get at least a day of rest after every start.

FYI, Twins hold tie breaker on us if we so happen to win the division. A 4 game lead is really only 3 to get the all important bye.

If I'm the Astros I would think of these next 3 series as best of 3. Gotta win each one to advance.

Dusty Baker trying to 'stay away' from using Yordan Alvarez in left field

“I’ve been wanting to stay away from him,” Baker said. “It’s better for us right now to DH him.”

Asked if Alvarez is dealing with an ailment, Baker said: “No, it’s better that we DH him.”

Alvarez did not take on-field batting practice Friday but was on the field at one point earlier and talking with an Astros trainer and multiple coaches. He started five of 12 games in left field to open this month before his recent run of DH starts.

Wednesday, Baker said he wanted to give Alvarez the day off because: “I haven’t liked how he’s moved and I haven’t liked how he’s swung.” Alvarez was hitless with two walks and a hit-by-pitch in his last 11 plate appearances entering Friday. He was hitting .298 with a 1.088 OPS in 18 total games in September.

Since returning July 26 from an oblique injury, Alvarez has made just 16 of 47 starts in left field. Michael Brantley’s return in late August from right shoulder surgery gave Baker another candidate to play left in an already crowded outfield. But Brantley is now dealing with his own ailment.

Brantley was not in the lineup Friday for a fourth consecutive game due to what Baker termed general soreness. Baker indicated Brantley, who’s hitting .262 in 12 games since rejoining the Astros after a 14-month absence, could be available in an emergency Friday.

“But we’ll try to stay away from him,” Baker said.

[Mauricio Baker] has started 10 of the last 17 games in center field, with his hitting resurgence helping lengthen the lineup.

Baker noted Dubón’s throwing arm in center and good numbers against breaking balls. He has also been one of Houston’s more productive hitters against lefthanded pitching. McCormick (1.020) and Dubón (.874) owned the two highest OPS marks among Astros righthanded hitters against lefties before Friday.

“He’s played more games and more at-bats than he had any other time in his career, so his resurgence is due to him getting some rest, and also mixing and matching, trying to get them all to stay strong and be rested,” Baker said. “He’s been one of our real saviors for this year.”

Rested? Meanwhile Bregman has missed one game all season.
