Javier pulled an AWESOME game out of his arse. Glad it happened. Only took 2 months. I don't blame him necessarily, blame management. And blame management in more ways than one. Every game Diaz doesn't play defense -- namely catcher -- the Astros are betting against reality.
It is probably 50/50 going forward. Even making the playoffs is a toss up. If we do, who knows. This team is not scaring anyone at this point. Bottom dwellers have been rolling over them with ease. The walk off win today was encouraging, but the way they have been playing the last weeks, who knows if this will light their fire or not.
With the Rangers and Mariners playing each other 7 times, our chances of making the playoffs are much higher than 50/50. It has to be approaching 80 or even 85%. Update: I had to go look it up, we are at 90.7% chance to make the playoffs, a near lock. Astros have 53% chance of winning division and Mariners/Rangers own the other 47%.
Lol hey I wasn’t far off…Javier did throw a great game and the offense was lifeless. But glad I was wrong on the score!
Anyone notice today Ryan Pressly threw pretty much all fastballs? I know he has a 1.29 ERA with Diaz (14 IP) vs a 4.14 ERA with Maldy but I would love to know the difference in pitch selection when the two are catching him. Anyone have a way to figure that out? I feel like Maldy falls in love with the spin and goes too far with it.
I think we scare people because once it is on... it can really get brutalizing on other teams. This team seems to really sleepwalk through inferior opponents with thus oh shucks attitude coming from above...
I know the Stros won today, but it's like Dusty is trying his best to sabotage the season. Not starting Alvarez really makes me wonder if Dusty is in cahoots with Manfred to keep the Stros from having a chance to win back to back championships.

Well, it was nice to wake up to see a win! I do wonder on Dusty’s emotions. Is he more happy that his favorite got the walkoff hit, or angry that his nemesis scored the walkoff run?
I do not think 2023 is toast, but I have less confidence than I do for 2024 when we are likely to return a healthier team.
