Miller was doing most of the day to day stuff under Strom. The pitching coach isn’t the problem… Valdez, Javier, Brown and France all had very high innings compared to the past ….. Pressly as well when you consider the WS and WBC. McCullers was out all year along with Garcia… you didn’t have Verlander or Urquidy for half the season. The only guys that really “regressed” or had a bad year without explanation is Montero and Maton in the second half. The issue is injuries and over work.
I see it similar. They get couple more premiere players like a Verlander or Altuve, they'll be a top contender a while
The window has always been closing fast, it is about the same as a year ago. The Astros should be good for at least 2024 and 2025.
I thought he was going to get the sombrero. But he never seems to have back-to-back good games, and the problem is, when you pay someone that much money, you need consistency, and the good kind.
He has been better after a horrific start. The power has certainly returned and overall he has advanced runners. Injuries have been an issue - but he also hasn’t been consistent enough this year. I wouldn’t be shocked is he has a 850-900 ops next year.
You think they assumed the pitching staff would be able to handle the increased load of the deep playoff run + WBC because they're pretty young?? They didn't really pursue pitching much at all in the off-season, which looking back now seems pretty foolhardy.
I like your optimism, but back injuries tend to be chronic, right? And he ain't getting any younger. I predict he'll have numbers in line with Miggy's age-37 season (746 OPS), but that may even be on the optimistic side.
Bielak and Blanco should've been relieving gassed starters since over a month ago. The guys we've been playing haven't given better results, so it's all wasted games with no hope for their rejuvenation. Now, the team is worse off and the gassed guys are prob more gassed. The management plan has been insanity and outright malpractice.
4,10,1(win),8 and 9....32 runs allowed in the last 5 games...1-4 if we don't come back....2 of those loses to KC and 14 runs in the first 2 games-only to be outdone by allowing 17 runs in the first 2 games vs. the O's.
