Valdez is the only pitcher who should be paired with Maldy in the offseason. And it's because of Frambers psyche. JV absolutely can ask for him but he is smart enough to see and know the benefit of Diaz. Just like using Chirinos in 2019 I bet Diaz catches JV in the playoffs Everyone else gets Diaz and can just shut up about it. Hey, a guy can dream can't he?
As a wise philosopher once said - wish in one hand, **** in the other, and see which one fills up first.
Guessing it matches the other painted brick section? That's been the only change since they took out the Hill for the new fan area
It was pretty subdued compared to all the red/white/and more rows of things. Plus the batters eye was considered to be from the camera well all the way to the ivy. Now the H/fake grass barely goes to where the flag poles used to go.
He will. I'm sure there already is a plan to make a swing adjustment this offseason. IMO, it's foolish to try now with playoffs on the line and he is doing other things at an acceptable level. With his defense and position, his bat is still plenty good. His HR output surprised me last year, as I expected him to be a 15-20 guy rather than a 20+ guy. I see him getting 1 more before the season ends and then having a more even HR season next year challenging for 20 again. I think if he tries to be a 30 HR guy other aspects suffer and his hit tool is already not a strength. I am happy with 2023 Jeremy regardless.
He's swinging strike rate is down, but probably needs to get even a little better. Walks are up. He'll probably do a small tweak in the offseason/spring, but 2024 looks very promising for him as I think part of the homer problem is bad luck.
Random thought, is Candy Maldanado related to Martin? They’re both from Puerto Rico and Candy was teammates with Dusty for a bit back in the day. Maybe there’s a connection? Hence Martin getting the priority.
Pena’s fielding in 2023 hasn’t been good. High # of errors with 0 Outs Above Average. Contrast with last season, high # of errors but 7 OOA. I think on the whole he’s an above average fielder and better than he has shown this season but probably not as good at the Gold Glover level he was last year
