Look up Trever Bauer and the LA Dodgers. Now, it's Julio Urias and the LA Dodgers. None of these guys will play in the US leagues again. Neither will KPJ. Give it time.
They wouldn't be trading for the player, they would be trading for picks, possibly cash, and to get out of a bad contract that runs longer than a year. Still makes no sense for anyone.
I don't understand why anyone is upset with this. They are trying to get rid of a guy who won't play and none of us want on the team for someone who isn't an absolute useless zero. And y'all mad?
Stop it. There is no trade partner for KPJ. Just stop it. NBA will do their stuff, voiding his entire contract if they can. If not, Rockets cut him and pay him some money (~$16M) He goes to prison and gets sued for all that money. There is no other outcome. That's it. Move on.
You realize kpj is just a contract for matching purposes, and will just be waived afterwards - why can’t people get this through their heads. For instance, kpj + 5 first round picks for OG Anunoby. Not to say I would even want that deal, just a hypothetical. More likely its for a semi useful player on a bad 2-3 year deal from another team, for a couple of seconds from the Rockets.
This might sound cold, but looking into a trade seems like due diligence to me. The end result will be the same in that Porter gets waived, be it as a Rocket or as a member of another team. But it could be tough to get a serviceable player back without giving up too much. After looking into options, the Rockets will probably just have to eat the contract and outright waive him. BTW I thought his contract was weirdly structured with few guarantees, so that if he were let go before the start of the season, the Rockets would not owe him anything. But I guess that's not the case.
There is no team in their right mind that is crazy enough to take on KPJ. NONE! It would be a shot to their PR foot. There is no team in the world crazy enough that would say we traded for KPJ in 2023 without risking protests. This is not the NFL.
The Hornets took Miles Bridges back and drafted Brandon Miller who had this gun issue. I mean it is not exactly the same but you can follow.
I’m shocked so many are missing the point… they aren’t trying to be cheap or get out of the contract. If he did what is alleged they won’t be liable for it after the league rules. they are trying to find a team looking for salary relief and packaging assets with him to get a player so we are decent team next year. It’s a waste just to have this contract voided. I cant even read 90% of comments here any more. Geez
I hate that I’m old enough to have watched this. Pretty sure this is what the Rockets meeting looked like. Except by the end there will be no Grand Prize Game.
Agreed. My take of the situation is the decision or punishment is the decision of Silver and the NBA - not the Rockets. So whether we trade or keep him, his contact may be cancelled (assuming that's the most likely scenario) and therefore there may be a team out there looking to salary dump. And Rockets are seeking to gain assets from a team looking to dump salary.
They will cool down after they sleep on it. But basically they are mad at management, FO, ownership to be harboring a criminal and leaking this trade and attaching assets to move him. But above all they are mad that the Rockets took a chance on Kevin Porter.....shet.....I am mad too. HELL, you can be sure I am hell mad at this Scoot forker.....and the Rockets!!!! Hell yeah I am. But let it be bygones.....
I mean what is the number of salary dump we are talking about.........15.8 million. For a franchise 15.8 mill salary dump is not that much, it might be a lot for us, for a working man family but not to an NBA franchise.
I’d never thought I’d miss Les. Every team I root for has the worse owners. Tilman, Jerruh and Stephen Jones, even the Lerners
