Educated guess suggests it doesn't happen often at all.

    - only September games are eligible (because teams need to play enough games to reach 50 below, and it doesn't happen every season)
    - the two teams have to matchup (most seasons a 50 below team won't play the defending champ)
    - it must a home game for the champ

I would guess there's only been ~20 seasons the criteria occurred and ~60 total games

Exactly, the universe of potential games that would qualify must be very small. Why didn't they throw in when the home team starts a pitcher who threw a no-hitter that same season and is left-handed?! :p

SP xwOBA over the past 30 days:

    France: .387
    JV: .347
    Framber: .339
Javier: .331 (things are looking up finally!)
    Brown: .316
Urquidy: .269 (bet you didn't see that coming, did ya?)

imo, France should be a reliever in the post-season. Would have Framber/JV/Javier/Brown as my playoff rotation.

I'm not value fan of expected results as much as weighted.

Sometimes expected results are not the same as actual results because the other team was better whether that's preparation or performance. Maybe it's more than luck.

For example France's actually results are better than expected results, while Brown's are worse.

Eventually you have to just accept that a player can bear down and based on focus or attitude or willpower outperform expectations regardless of what those are.

And the only reason to use expected results over actual ones is if you think it's only luck.

Dusty: "I put on some Tupac this morning. ALL EYEZ ON ME for some motivation. I don't know if you can play that on the radio."

You think France’s splits are because he’s better at bearing down than Brown?

There are a few guys who can weather poor peripherals via contact management - Pedro Baez was a good example of this. I’m not aware of any guys who could reliably post good results while having poor peripherals and poor contact management.

I’m not blaming Dusty for the loss or for the offense being limp spaghetti.

hell, I won’t even say he needed Diaz to pinch hit for maldy in the 8th.

but to not put in Diaz, Dubon, Meyers… anyone in the bench to pinch hit for your worst hitter in a game that is not out of reach is simply POOR MANAGMENT AND DECISION MAKING.

would it have made a difference? Probably not. But you had your absolute worst hitter up to bat at the end of the game with multiple options on the bench. Any other manager, any other team, would have pinch hit their worst hitter there. How can you argue that? What is the Dusty defense there? Other than he just gave up on the game because no one else was doing anything..

We aren't going to win every game, and sometimes you will just have some stinkers regardless of who is hitting. That being said, to not put our best foot forward when the game is in reach is a failing of the manager.

I really enjoy you guys and all the back and forth we have had, but I think it is time for me to take a break. Following this years team has been an exhausting roller coaster ride of ups and downs. I am emotionally drained and will take a break. Check you later.

If you've come this far with the Astros in 2023 you have to ride it to the end. I'm not missing a regular season game until the Astros clinch the division or are eliminated.

Surprise surprise. At least Chaz is playing. It’s criminal that Maldonado continues to start this many games.

I guess Dubon will be the FB pitcher CF as Dusty does not trust chubby Chas in those situations. Will this bullshit stop in the postseason like it did last year?

If Martin Maldonado got hurt would Dusty give Jason Castro a call so he could start instead of Yanier...

It isn't just Chas. Meyers is by far the better defender in CF than Dubon, despite Dubon's defensive hot streak fueled by a lot of opportunities just within Dubon's range, but only one opportunity credited to him (which was a great play) that is counted as a 3-star (Chas's usual range) or 4-star catch (Meyers's usual range).

Every time Meyers slumps, he loses playing time. Quickly. Julks slumps and it taks Dusty nearly 4 weeks before reducing his playing time any and Brown had to send him down to get him out of the lineup completely. Some players have to earn playing time and take it...even then, still likely loses playing time at the whims of Dusty. Other players, playing time is given. When they play well, they will be giving an incredibly long leash.

I am really happy that Dubon has played well recently in CF. I don't think it will continue to be as good as Chas (who has made a few bad plays this year) and not close to Meyers defensively.
