There are 450 spots in the league. They can’t even name a draft eligible player not in the league that’s better than the top half of the league. And when I say draft eligible, I’m referring to players that have already had a shot to be drafted or picked up by the NBA and aren’t playing in it, for whatever reason.
Yeah it's so dumb. People bragging about FIBA teams conveniently forgetting the NBA players playing and starring in said teams. How dense can you be?
Literally 15 of top 15 players in Fiba are playing in the NBA and some geniuses here questioning why there isn't an NBA vs world conference: https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba...ngs-2023-luka-doncic/oiczm4eg2i0epk7bocjthpcm "Ermmmm NBA has all the best players in FIBA and the best players in the NBA didn't even play in FIBA but some team can beat the NBA you need to play to find out." Lol wtf.
It's already pointless trying to reason with idiots who believe that the nba is an international league bc it has a small percentage of international players. Or that it's an international competition to get into the NBA. Much less point out that u have to win an actual international tournament to b called a world champ. The nba is National basketball association, not international. Some of u need to go back to school and learn geography
How the **** is it not? Are you familiar with the NBA draft? Why be so proud of your fake narrative? Do you think Canada medals in FIBA without their NBA players? Germany? Where was this year's MVP from? U need 2 learn geography. The re-surfacing of these arguments because the USA lost in a FIBA tournament is so irrational as to make a sane person hostile. Team USA != NBA Champions. Completely different tournament ideas. How did former Euroleague MVPs Teodosic, Kirilenko, Spanoulis, Bjelica, de Colo, Mirotic do in the NBA? Why did they come to the NBA? Why didn't Doncic and Jokic stay in the Euroleague? It's pettiness and dogmatism to want the NBA championship team to beat a bunch of international teams 130-50 so that your book definition of world champion can be "proven". That's not going to happen, even though I'd be in favor of it. Better to just stop using the word "world" because some people will have impotent rage about it. Those "small percentage of international players" are the best of their countries (with the notable exceptions of guys like Sergio Llull, who I respect for staying locally and enjoying being in a small pond.) Your argument is bad and you should feel bad.
Lol calm down. The discussion was not stirred up on Clutchfans, a US athlete in another sports stirred it up. World Champion is not copyrighted in any way so it should not be seen as that serious.
OK, relevance of your point? This has been a topic for 30 years, every time the USA struggles in an international tournament. I usually ignore it until someone gets so proud of being wrong that they call people idiots for saying the NBA is international. Repeat after me: NBA Champions != Team USA. FIBA Tournament != Professional Tournament I enjoyed seeing Steve Kerr & team USA lose. Congratulations to the countries who will enjoy their medals far more. Let's close the book on this one.
Relevance = It is a simple point and we only make it more difficult by talking about it ad nauseum. Not every NBA champion calls themselves explicitly World Champions. Pop used it a couple times. The NBA is international. It has a League Mode and a Playoff Mode, and now another Tournament mode. World champion is incorrect in many ways. But if you use it, no harm done actually. Some disagree. NBA Champion World Cup Champion Olympic Games Champion...... In Season tournament Champion....... Euro League Champion Continental Cup Champion. G-League Champion. XXX = Cup name (international or national) and then you add 'Champion'. Then you can argue which Cup is the most important one but first do it the right way.
I agree that it’s pointless trying to convince idiots that a league with players from 40 countries and six continents, comprising over 1/4 of its players, is an international one that has the best players from across the globe. We should stop assuming everyone has basic comprehension.
If you beat the best in the world then call yourself whatever the hell you want, world champion included. That applies to basketball, track, spades, whatever.
Yeah, I meant it in official terms. There should be an official term. You can call yourself the world best lover to your misses, I would not care.....lelz. At least I thought we were talking about the unofficial term.....
Actually I think the topic usually comes up when someone on an NBA championship team calls themselves the world champion. Personally I don't think the US struggling in the WC has anything to do with the debate. There are usually two points of argument for calling the NBA champ as world champ. 1. They are the best league in the world. 2. They have a lot of international players. #2 is clearly not a good argument because there are international players in many other leagues. So it usually goes back to the "Best" argument. #1 is the confusion between champion and best. It should not be difficult to understand best =/= champion. Yet this has been repeated again and again in these debates. To me, it should be very simple and should have been finished long time ago. All the talks about elitism and US struggle in the WC and Olympics are irrelevant to the essence of what it is about. They are just emotional catalysts.
I for one surely do not mind underdogs winning championships so nope the best shall not win every year. Regardless if NBA title or World Cup or Olympic Games.
Exactly that's what makes it a global league. The best players all over the world come to the NBA because the NBA pays the most money in the world. To day it's local just cuz the league is called "National Basketball Association" is super dumb imo.
It's not just being the best league in the world it's about having having monopoly on the best players in the world. The other league have international players but are those players the best players in the world? No right? The best players in the world are almost exclusively in the NBA. Maybe you can find a player good enough to be in the NBA that isn't in the NBA, but I doubt you'll find anyone as good as the best players in the NBA. That's also why this whole "best league not champion" doesn't make sense to me. You won't find anyone who is willing to have that competition because the NBA won't take it seriously cuz they know they will destroy. And let's be real with a with a ten man lineup of NBA best you think anybody will stand a chance? Cmon man let's just be honest.
Those small international players are the best basketball players in their country you get that? There's no Greek better than Giannis and there's no Slovenian better than Luka. NBA is international because the best players in the world (aka international) are in it. There could be more internstional players but they aren't good enough. Doesn't mean NBA is a local league honestly how dumb can you be? The NBA draft to get into the NBA is a international competition. The signing of free agents by NBA teams is an international competition. Lol American stupidity at its finest I guess don't even know the difference between local and international. Understand how the NBA works first before trying to argue cuz you don't have a clue. NBA has no limits on nationality a NBA team can have 15 international players if they are good enough. Talent is the limitation not nationality.
