When an open world game is trying to tell me how to best play it, my gut reaction is they got it wrong.

Lord, I wanted nothing like No Man's Sky, but I did want something more akin to the flight mechanics and exploration of something like Elite : Dangerous with more "stuff" to do and things to see. Elite : Dangerous was just too realistic. "What do you mean there won't be life on every planet? WTH AM I SUPPOSED TO DO?!" :D

So far, it's not too bad. From everything I've read, a lot of people suggested you just go ahead and do the main quest first and then come back and do the other stuff and exploration. Not sure why, but I'm leaning towards doing that even though in most RPG's I go and try go do every side quest I run into while I work slowly to completing the main quest.

Adoring Fan is already getting on my nerves, and I just ran into him. God bless Bethesda for bringing this knucklehead back.

Too busy with a superior product like BG3 to play this right now. Will wait for bugs to clear and a sale before buying.

As is common with me and RPG's, I restarted my game because I talked myself into not liking one of my traits selections. Go me. :D

Bruh wtf. I pre-installed the 120GB days ago. Finally put the kids to sleep and it's time to get to business. Load it up and now it's gotta update 117GB?

It's not downloading more crap - it's unzipping/installing the crap you downloaded. There was one patch that I know of on "day 1", I think, and that was it so far.

Yeah I figured, but why can't it do that before it's live. I just wanted to get on the game and immerse myself into a fantasy so I could ignore the crippling problems in my life.

But of course, the game crashes right after I create my character. So then I gotta update my drivers. Finally after 30'ish minutes of setting the game up, I'm able to play. Only got an hour I think, did the mission on Kreet and got back to my ship. The game looks good on my 7900 XT. I get what people are griping about with the stamina system. It's definitely annoying.

What's the deal with stamina you're having issues with? The only time it's brutal is when I'm weighed down with all the trash I've picked up and taking 3 steps ramps up my CO2. lol.

I really don't have much to complain about with the game itself other than the UI, maybe. I haven't had any crashes/lockups yet. Sometimes the companions get in the way, but no big deal yet. I'm playing on "normal" and the game seems ok in terms of difficulty, leaning towards a bit too easy maybe in terms of combat. But that's just planetary/land combat. I haven't done much of any combat in space, but my hooptie didn't have any upgrades until recently, so I wasn't sure I wanted to involve myself in combat. The game looks fine for me, as well.

I do hate the inventory management/UI, though. That's probably my least-liked of all of the things. Also hate that you can't boost all over the place easily (well, not yet anyway). You start off with that booster with the 2-puff fart designed to help you get over a pebble. I couldn't help but think "you guys have mastered interstellar/galactic travel but this is all you could come up with for personal locomotion??"

So far, I really have enjoyed the combat against pirates. To the point I decided to steer a bit off the main storyline to shoot up some pirates at an abandoned facility so I could get stuff to sell and fund some ammo purchase for a bit longer excursion.

I also didn't think I'd like the theme of the entire game where the ships, tech, etc. reminded me more of FIrefly instead of Star Trek, but it's grown on me.

My biggest decisions so far have been what skills to put points into. Also, I generally do tons of side quests before finishing the main quest, but this time I decided to try to focus on the main quest and then have a galaxy to explore and fight in. Still don't know if that's the best thinig to do in terms of an enjoyment/gameplay perspective, but we'll see.

People are also already releasing mods for the game to help with some stuff. I'll probably try some once I'm done with the main quest.

Mainly the encumbered state of being overweight lol. On the Kreet mission, I was looting everything so got bogged down for the boss fight and took me a long time to walk back to my ship.

How does it compare to FO4 gameplay wise?

lol. Yeah, that's normal. I quickly learned not to grab everything. You're doubly-screwed because if you're kinda far away from your ship, you also can't fast travel when you're overweight, but I guess you found that out. :D I don't even bother picking up stuff that's under 35 in value unless it's a crafting supply of some sort (just in case I'll need it in the future). I always pick up ammo and any weapons since even if you can't use the weapon, you can sell it for money early-game. My problem is that I don't want to sell any weapons "just in case I need them" or because they're epic, legendary, or rare. Or because if I run out of one type of ammo, I've got other weapons that use other ammo that I happened to keep that I could use.

You could also put points into the weightlifting skill or whatever it's called though I don't think adding another few kg of capacity is going to help either of us. I was carrying close to 300kg at some point, I think. You could also put points into Fitness, too, I guess. Or better yet, I just dump a lot of stuff on my companion. Most trips, they end up being full and I end up being overburdened, so I have to come back and figure what to sell, and that usuall takes too dang long. :D

I never played FO4, but like a lot of people say, and I kind of agree : it's Skyrim in space. Kind of like a Spacerim. Definitely not a NoMansSkyrim, and definitely not a Star Citizen (which I'm sure will be good when it's released in a few decades).

Playing it as much as I can. I almost started over after 4 hours because of something I didn't optimize during character creation, but kept on going. I love the game. There is so much to do, that I don't know how I'll ever get done. I will be playing this game for years to come and that isn't an exaggeration. I've done some main quest, some faction quests, and and some other ones. I haven't completed any of the faction quests or the main quest, yet. I need to figure out my skill progression to get my ability to build starships and stuff. But the game is a lot of fun. I really like it. I'm torn on the romantic pursuit for my character.

Less railroad, more open world, wider variety of missions, and things to do, just huge in comparison.

I've basically just done main quests until now, but I've decided to stray from my original plan of just running through the main quest and coming back to all the side stuff and instead am trying to level my character a slight bit. I'm only now joining my first faction after restarting my game after a day of playing. I've also decided I don't need (nor store) all the crap available to pick up since making money in the game isn't too difficult.

The game is pretty fun so far, and yeah, it's huge. I don't get the scale of something quite as huge as Elite : Dangerous, but it's definitely got much more story and substance to it. It's definitely not the snoozefest No Man's Sky is/was which I still haven't finished after attempting to play twice since it launched years ago. My two biggest complaints about the game are the UI (but then I'm on a PC) and the inventory system. Well, ok, three - my sidekick always gets in the way of my fire.

Yeah inventory is kind of clunky and using to buy/sell from vendors is even more so. Not a huge deal or gamebreaker by any means, but it is less than perfect for sure.

I'm level 16 and screwed up three of my advances on skills

What's the consensus on skills so far? I'm only level 7 and get to play maybe an hour a day.

I chose soldier and mainly wanna focus on gunplay, but have been investing into the Science tree to be able to upgrade my weapons.
