Abreu has been really good since returning from the IL. Pena has been good lately as well, hitting .347/.408/.466 over his last 30 games. We seriously complaining about this lineup now?
McCormick has been good too. yeah, I think its strange to have two of our highest OPS guys batting 8th and 9th and behind a dude with a .665 OPS. legitimate issue
maybe Crane and Brown finally stepped in. It’s inexcusable Brantley has been back for weeks now and it’s the first time Dusty is trying out this lineup.
Let's be honest.... nobody is going to put a 3 year $20 mil a year player in the 8th or 9th hole when they have rookies and 2nd year guys they can plug and play in those spots and everyone is somewhat happy.
Not far… it may be better, albeit Correa was having a pretty good year that year. Also Tucker wasn’t Tucker in 2019 (Reddick still getting starts). Chirinos was a very good hitting catcher. Bregman was in MVP mode. Yordan, while a rookie, was as good as anything. I’d take this lineup in a 7 game series over the one in 2019.
Well if his OPS is .665 and the 8th worst in the lineup after over 5 months, then yeah he earned that 8th or 9th spot.
Pretty impressive they can roll out a lineup of this caliber after several of the stars from the 2019 team have moved on and without pursuing the top FAs.
Earned means nothing when you're a rook playing sparingly vs a vet still on a 3 year contract. All sports have their money guys in the lineup to keep them happy to avoid a disaster if the player doesn't respond well to benching or being put down in the lineup. Plus, he's been shelling out RBIs at a good clip. I wouldn't mind seeing Abreu further down in the lineup personally, but not at the expense of having him feel less productive when you know McCormick and Diaz will accept their roles for now.
Talking baseball crew giving some praise to the Astros "strong bats" line up. https://fb.watch/mZITL5HSQQ/?mibextid=CDWPTG
Talking baseball crew giving some praise to the Astros "strong bats" line up. Code: https://fb.watch/mZITL5HSQQ/?mibextid=CDWPTG I love this lineup
2019 was such a good lineup over a full season. If Abreu and Brantley are 100% or close to it, I'd say 2023 is better with everything perfect i. Just hard for me to say that with a few old guys in the 2023 lineup that I have skepticism that they could hold up for long periods of time. Just praying Brantley and Abreu hold up through November.
Agreed… but they don’t need them to hold up for a full season. Just need them to hold up for a little over 6 weeks. That’s why I said with off days, and hopefully no adverse weather issues, this lineup has pretty much everything it needs.
I still can’t believe this is the first time Dusty is employing the death lineup - ie lineup where all of the best bats at every position are employed. The DAY nay the MINUTE it became apparent Brantley was returning I would’ve been giddy to pencil in that lineup to see what damage the team is capable of . Instead we got weeks of derr derr Maldy ! Derp derp Myers ! Durr Durr Dubon ! Singleton the savior ! Excited to see what today brings . All I can say is Finally!
