And Toronto is about to host the Rangers for 4 games. The way Texas is flaming out, it's not unthinkable that the Blue Jays take 3 or even all 4 of those. The Astros almost certainly make the playoffs barring a collapse even worse than the Rangers, but winding up as the 6th seed and final wild card team isn't out of the question.
If the Blue Jays do that, it effectively ends Texas’ season. At that point, the Astros won’t need to worry about making the playoffs, and their only competition for the division is Seattle… and that gets them the 2nd seed regardless. Honestly, the only thing the Astros could/should be worried about is if somehow Minnesota goes on a long extended winning streak. Them somehow getting the #2 seed would basically create all sorts of worst case scenarios as far as playoff brackets go. Even at a 6 seed, and having to play an extra round, the Astros get Minnesota… and then Seattle.
So if Houston wins the division with the #2 seed then they'll play either Minn #3 seed or #6 seed (perhaps Toronto) best of 5. If Houston gets the #6 seed then they would play the #3 seed Minn best of 3 then Seattle #2 seed best of 5. (I personally would watch that series of Correa vs Springer in that WC round) Both of those sound ideal meaning I don't mind the Rangers getting the boot ASAP to make that a reality scenario. If Houston gets the #5 seed then they would play perhaps Tampa Bay best of 3 (not bad) then Baltimore best of 5 in ALDS. I personally would rather face the Mariners in the early rounds of the playoffs than in the ALCS when they have some confidence (especially with how they've killed us this year). The good news is.... The Astros have a team that can beat any AL team in the playoffs to get back to the WS regardless of seeding.
This is the most frustrated I have ever been with baseball. Win, lose, or draw, Dusty has made this season much less enjoyable for knowledgeable Astro fans.
Well after the way the amazing Martin Maldonado completely fixed Hunter Brown last night, you just can't go with anyone else.
Also for all our home struggles, Chas and Diaz both have 900+ OPS at MMP Hope it works out, but frustrating as hell At least johnnies son it happy I suppose Only saving grace is Texas pitching is so bad I think we could back into the playoffs if needed
Honestly, it's a nice problem to have in figuring out who needs to sit out because you have too many players who are either hot or just great offensively. However, a lot of these issues would be resolved if we just played Diaz over Maldy at least 40% of the games....
Oh good Maldy is still in the lineup with Dubon. I was beginning to worry. The only RBI Altuve will see today will be his own HR
Astros apologists on Twitter/X. "Blake Snell is the NL Cy Young! Did you guys really expect us to beat him?" Well we didn't really do much against their bull-pen either. Way to cope.
That's what McCormick gets for not getting a hit (not like it matters even if he did). He's too damn fat and slow.
This is why we need Luhnow back...or should've stuck with Click. With no one to check on senile Dusty, he does what he wants and dgaf.
