Ah, family! I remember when family was such an important value. Families are great and the government should support families. We have plenty of policies from the past that do support families. But now? I guess families are only considered great if they're a certain type. If not, use the might of the government to ensure families are of a particular type.
You cannot decide for your children to have sex with someone, even if you claim it's "what they want". You can also not decide for your children to have a limb cut off, even if you claim it's "what you want". Parental rights are important, but protecting children from their own parents is sometimes necessary as well.
Per NASW: MYTH: Children who receive gender-affirming care are given “mutilating” surgeries by their doctors. FACT: Except for very rare exceptions, transgender people are not able to have gender-affirming surgeries until they are 18 and older. There is no single gender affirming surgery–nor does a person have to have any surgery, or a specific surgery, to be transgender. Gender affirming surgery includes a wide range of procedures such as plastic surgery to change features in the face to be more typically masculine or feminine, ‘top surgery’ to make changes to the chest or torso, or ‘bottom surgery’ to make changes to genitals. Transgender and non-binary people are not able to have gender-affirming genital surgeries until they are adults. In very rare exceptions, 16 or 17 year-olds who have been consistent and persistent in their gender identity for years, have been taking gender-affirming hormones for some time and who have approvals from both their parents and doctors have been able to receive top surgeries. In all cases, gender affirming surgeries are only performed after multiple discussions with both mental health providers and physicians (including endocrinologists and/or surgeons), to determine if surgery is the appropriate course of action. None of these surgical procedures are unique to transgender people. They are the same procedures that have safely and effectively been given to cisgender and intersex people for decades, for a host of cosmetic and medical reasons. Prior research shows that post-surgical complication rates are similarly low among transgender and cisgender people receiving the same type of surgery– if not lower among transgender people. ..... Please stop spreading misinformation about parents MUTILATING their children or equating with sexual assault on a minor. It's just simply not true, and disingenuous to equate in that manner.
the old "it's not happening" argument if it's not happening, then why do you complain about it not being allowed?
Nobody is complaining about parents having the ability to mutilate their child. That’s nonsense that your right wing propaganda likes to try and spread. Only thing we are complaining about is the misinformation and hateful propaganda people like you spread on behalf of right wing politicians trying to divide the electorate on culture wars issues because they know their policies are not popular.
In their mind, it does. A youtube video or an idiotic tweet is enough evidence for them to base their opinion on.
Biggest issue I see on the D&D, and it's not just from the right, is that people make statements of fact when in reality it's just their opinion. Everyone is a scientist and expert, and knows better than people who spend their lives studying this stuff. Only they are unbiased and can see the true reality. The whole of anti-transgenderism isn't about protecting kids, it's about winning a political point, about fighting back against wokeness or rejecting something that feels uncomfortable - none of these people give a damn about the kids. They haven't done any work into actually understanding what is going on and simply dismiss it as kids being confused or "groomed"
Yeah, none of these folks have spent much time doing any real work to understand. It's a fair conclusion that they don't give a damn about the kids. People who are really concerned about kids wouldn't prioritize tweets, politicians, and their own feelings over established medical care.
Do you have anything to offer up other than tweets? People have countered your arguments here. All you do is say it's "horseshit" or "untrue" You look at this issue superficially and I think you don't want to know more. You're a smart guy; put some effort into knowing what's actually going on instead of just making snap judgements.
