To be fair I have been watching FIBA World Cup games a lot more than the average Brooks fairweather fan, actually most of them. Lol.
I’m not sure you know what the definition of fairweather fan is. https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/how-i-learned-to-love-dillon-brooks.320593/ Some of us saw what Brooks could be long before FIBA, or rather what he already was in Mem when they had everyone healthy, he was not the 15 shot a game chucker casual fans like yourself painted him to be. Now that he is proving it in FIBA, haters like yourself are the ones backpeddling and changing your colors claiming no one said he was a bad player: that is the definition of a fairweather fan - meet mirror.
Overall seems to be having a good tournament. Hope he can bring a similarly selfless mentality to training camp; he's practicing good shot selection.
https://www.sportal.gr/basket/artic...akos-amyntikos-ston-kosmo-2023090713503366284 If there's one thing that stands out about Dillon Brooks' character, it's the terrifying confidence he exudes in every step he takes. The Canadian forward has consistently been in the spotlight in recent years, with his behavior towards opponents a key topic of discussion. The Memphis Grizzlies even got tired of his actions and decided to release him, in a condition that was taken advantage of by the Houston Rockets, who did not miss the opportunity and made him theirs. After all, with his addition, they "shielded" their defense, with a player who can change the balance on his good day. This was also seen in the FIBA World Cup. In the game against Spain he was pivotal, leading his country to victory, while against Luka Doncic and Slovenia he did what he knows very well: he got into the mind of the Slovenian superstar. It is one of the elements he wants to keep for the semi-final against Serbia, where he will be called upon to mark Bogdan Bogdanovic. "We want to keep the same athleticism, the same energy and not let them find free three-pointers. We know they shoot well and we don't want to let them do that," he said, speaking to Sportal about what he wants to keep from the quarter-final, while also holding the keys to victory on Friday. "We want to score close to the basket and at the same time find the free shots from a distance. That will be key for us. We want the energy in the defense to translate into the attack and to play fast." Jordi Fernandez idolized the Canadian ace, after first emphasizing that he must present a better image, in order to spend more time on the floor. He named him the tournament's best perimeter defender, along with Lou Dort. Dort leaving the Ninoy Aquino Arena was clear as he told us "me and Brooks are the best defenders in the world," with Brooks speaking even more personally. "I feel like I'm the best perimeter defender in the league, in the NBA, in the world," was his clear answer, but he didn't stop there as he focused on the reasons why he feels that way. "I feel like I can bring a different type of defense, through my IQ to the game, but also with the discipline I have when I'm on the field." In the game against Slovenia, he was loudly booed. He was the only player in the entire tournament who, instead of experiencing the apotheosis, heard a prolonged "boo" follow him. She responded with kisses to the podium every time she hit a three-pointer. We asked him how many kisses he still has "saved" for the people in Manila, and his answer was disarming. "It depends on the three-pointers I'm going to make. 3, 5,7 I don't know to be honest. It depends on the free shots I get and they go in." Of course, both he and his team are neither on vacation, nor to... play with the platform. In their mind there is only the gold medal and how they will manage to reach it. However, psychology is their big...weapon, as "we have raised our self-confidence. We respect our opponents. We show it by how hard we play. We play harder than the opponent, we play for each other and that helps us get rebounds and run in transition," were his words. What is certain at this stage of the tournament is that Canada will need Brooks even more to stop the scoring of Bogdan Bogdanovic. It will be yet another testament to the defensive commitment of the tournament's most... misunderstood player. Something that does not concern him at all.
Yeah every time I read about him I think of a certain former Rockets player. https://bleacherreport.com/articles...e-is-best-defensive-player-in-nba-this-season
yeah Beverley actually owned up to everything good and bad and was making what role player value he should be and also understood his role. He was actually a better player and contributed more to winning. all of which isn't comparable to Dillon Bricks. dumb comparison and an insult to Bev. but context isn't a strong suit here on CF's for many of you
Yeah Brooks is much better than Beverley due to his size alone. Hard to have an elite impact defensively as guard with all the switching nowadays. Brooks was forced into a heavier offensive load than he can handle due to injury on Memphis, as he is showing in FIBA, and showed whenever Mem was healthy, he can take a lesser role on offense.
In Houston, Brooks’ guidance will be as important as his own ability to guard. Word of the Rockets’ impending free-agent pursuit came shortly after Houston hired Ime Udoka as the franchise’s next head coach, the man who oversaw the NBA’s best defense in 2021-22. There is an identity shift Udoka aims to instill on the ground floor of this rebuild. The coach has been widely credited for pinpointing Brooks as the Rockets’ tool for raising that ceiling. “He knows that I bring a different type of edge to the game,” Brooks told Yahoo Sports. “I have my ups and downs with it. But I can teach young guys. Houston was a great offensive team. They just needed more on the defensive end, stressing priority on the defensive end.” For his perceived failures with Memphis, Brooks was nothing but successful in setting the Grizzlies’ tone. As much as Memphis rose atop the Western Conference with Ja Morant’s dazzling drives and Desmond Bane’s rapid development and Jaren Jackson Jr.’s defensive prowess, Memphis played with Brooks’ personality. Rivals regularly complained about the Grizzlies’ collective growl. It’s not difficult to discern which hound was leading that pack. Alas, that chapter for Brooks has closed. Receiving $86 million guaranteed from Houston will certainly aid his adjustment, leaving the only organization he’s known in six years as a professional. Brooks feels primed for a leadership role in his new scenery. “Just having a positive mindset, knowing that it’s gonna be a transition day by day,” Brooks said. “Getting better day by day and finding ways to believe in the details and believe in the little things that get you to where you need to get to, whether it’s playoffs, whether it’s winning the in-season tournament, each game getting better and better.” Rest assured, Brooks has no plans on altering his approach. The crowd at Mall of Asia was overflowing with Dončić jerseys and Filipino faithfuls who largely lean as Lakers fans. The boos rained down from the moment Brooks rushed onto the floor during lineup introductions. They crescendoed whenever he touched the ball. So with each of the three triples Brooks drained, he turned to the jeering stands, took a trio of fingers to his lips and blew kisses to the haters. After all, when a reporter asked Brooks if he’s the best defender at this World Cup, his response was dead-panned. “Yeah. This tournament, this world, in the NBA,” Brooks said. “I feel like I bring a different type of defense with my IQ and how physical I play and how disciplined I am on the floor.”
Bro I'd rather deal with 5 Dillon Brooks than one Stephen Silas. I can't wait for this year and just having people capable of doing their jobs.
That is okay, Mystik but most of us knew Silas was there for the tank job otherwise he would not have survived one season with a normal organization, it is not so normal around this town. In retrospect, it served as a highly educational counter study of how not to start a rebuild with someone who hasn't achieved anything in this league and has virtually no real coaching talent.---just you know calling yourself assistant is useless. The Rockets already did that with McHale, we at least fired him, not the best timing but fired him alright.
So basically you said an all-defensive player saying "I am the best defensive perimeter player in the game" delusional. I bring up another all-defensive player who said essentially the same thing in "I am the best defensive guard in the game" and somehow the comparison is totally wrong because...?
Beverley was a different player in my eyes, he was more of a marathon guy chasing PGs and quicker guys around. Beverley was anything but a scorer. DB is not that kind of guy. He was a high school scorer king so he was made into a defender but basically he is a scorer in his brain. He mostly guards slower SGs and SFs and sometimes bigger players.
