I would be mad to; you can't drop off hundreds of migrants without a plan and some notice right in front of city hall open the bus door and say Good Luck, hell most don't even speak english. If this was done in a way where everyone worked together and sent them were they really need them with assistance from large companies who need the help this could go much smoother...........but this isn't about helping your fellow man, this is 100% politics, the HUMANS are simply a political pawn. Its sad that people like Deantis and Wheels need to "score" political points more than helping another human being. I bet if you called Tyson and asked how many people they need throughout the midwest at their kill/processing plants you would have hundreds if not thousands of positions, they actually pay decent but Americans dont want to do it because it sucks killing all those chickens and processing them. They could help with visa`s and sponsorship, hell maybe get a nice tax break. I used to work with JB Swift and we couldn't get enough workers in Liberal Ks, Wichita Ks or Omaha so they ended up sponsoring hundreds of Sudanese people who work there tails off and are grateful for the opportunity. I bet Ron could use a few folks to come to Fl to help with the clean-up. There could be lots of wins here but the politicians gotta play politics.

This is Chicago and this is American policy to not enforce the border.
Ron, Vivek or Ronald Reagan have nothing to do with the Black residents being very angry at the mayor for quickly allocating resources for migrants as opposed to improving the south side of Chicago

I didn’t make this story up or this thread
Just watching things unravel like everyone else

that chooses not to ignore it

I gotta say, you are wrong on this. (the bold).

I've worked for multiple large companies who actually recruit people in other countries to come and work for them and help these people get their visa's while also providing transportation and housing (off site) rather than paying American workers wages and these people are happy to oblige as they work 9 months and go back to their country of origin with a fistful of dollars and return in 90 days to do it all again.
They do this by creating shell temp agencies, usually multiple to cover their tracks and all they have to do is say they can't get local labor to do the work and are the government allows them a number of visa's to cover the labor shortfall.

They are getting away with paying these people about $9hr and then charging them for rent and transportation - after their 9 month stint, these people end up with ~$3000 in their pockets when they return home. That's a lot of money in Nicaragua, Columbia, El Salvador or Ecuador. Some of the people I know personally working for one of these companies have been returning for 25 years or more.

The company saves on actual wages, as well as not having to contribute to healthcare, retirement benefits, unemployment, SSI or any other wage related costs.

Tyson foods was charged with illegal hiring practices in federal court for doing much the same in 2000 (went to court in early 2003) .... though the company was acquitted, the hiring managers weren't, one of them committed suicide while the others took plea deals - they contend that they were doing as told by company execs.

Legal loopholes .... purposefully left in place by both parties and it's the American worker who suffers.

In the Midwest there were severe shortages of workers at meat processing plants during COVID that hasn’t quite caught up yet. One reason why meat and eggs are so expensive. a guest worker program sounds like a win win. It reduces costs for the American consumer while also sending money back into the economies of origin.

It’s also not just meat packing there are shortages of workers in most sectors of agriculture and in construction. I know for a
Fact that I’ve had projects held up because they couldn’t get enough framers and drywallers.

There is also a big shortage of workers in service industries too. That’s why you still see lots of restaurants still advertising for help and even some going out of business because they cannot find help.

There isn't a shortage of labor.

There is a shortage of fair wages.

American workers will not work for what these companies can get away with paying migrant workers.

I have a current construction project I'm involved in that requires a background check (Space project). When we told the workers of the project there were only 4 who qualified out of ~300. The rest were either felons, can't pass a piss test or one way or another illegal - everything from visa overstays to straight up fraudulent SS#s.
To man the project, we're having to offer ~220% in wages to recruit qualified people. They'll work, you just have to pay them top dollar. They won't show up for the piss ant wages companies are paying these migrants.
And lets be honest - these skilled tradesmen deserve a quality wage, not the crap scale most of these non-union construction firms are offering right.

The construction industry is in a very difficult place right now, you have so many migrant workers - both legal and illegal employed who have displaced all but the very top of the food chain - those with the licenses and many of those are retiring and there's few qualified individuals to replace them currently and few new middle class citizens joining the trades because they just don't pay well enough.

If you work in construction you understand then how tight the margins are and how difficult financing is. Skilled framers and drywallers are getting higher wages than they were prepandemic and even then we can’t get enough higher labor prices will likely mean any projects done happen because developers can’t get financing and GC’s lose bids.

Also in general I find it interesting how so many complain about inflation and then complain about allowing in lower cost labor. Labor is one of the main factors in costs.

You're not wrong about Tyson, they can be as corrupt as the next guy but the plan they had in place was solid until some bad eggs tried to grift off of it. Its a good plan if done right, but to many try and profit off the backs of immigrants.

I pay my landscaping workers between $23- $30 per hour based on “pay for performance” , I have zero issues getting applicants to work for my company. Pay for performance is very achievable - It puts guaranteed money in my pocket and assures workers that the more they do the more they receive…Any company that is having hiring issues simply needs to pay more….I believe in capitalism but I do not believe in taking advantage of workers. Treat people right and pay them

I'm goign to point out again that when Republicans controled the PResidency, the House and the Senate, they also refused to pass Wall Funding or a comprehensive immigration fan.

To add we are at less than 4% unemployment so it’s not as though there is a big supply of US workers to take those jobs even if they were paid more. That would come at the cost of employment in other sectors without growing the labor force.

I do all the estimates in the business plus I'm involved in the management of client processes plus I work with my workers at least on lawn-mowing on select days - landscaping work I stay hands off - which is more profitable? Believe it or not simple lawnmowing - as an example, I typically submit estimates between $45-$55 for a professional lawn cut service - I keep estimates less than 10,000 sq.ft at this rate (which is actually within what competitors charge)- my expectations is for a crew of one to do 2 yards per hour for residential work to maximize the pay rate on "pay for performance"- if it takes 1.5 properties in an hour that's fine but their rate will be affected- (1.5 yards per hour is a minimum expectation unless properties over 10K sq. Ft enters the discussion)-in this example in one hour I will pay the worker $30 while the business takes in $100- the difference is $70 and from that I deduct other business related expenses and after that is my profit - landscaping is also based similarly on expected time but is not as clear cut to estimate based on materials involved- right now I'm running three crews- typically one person but in some cases a two person crew based on the management of the jobs involved- communication is often the biggest challenge especially on inclement weather - naturally, the more crews I have, the more the business earns but then the more "management" I have to do so in some regards I don't want to grow larger
