Lol He plays personal favorites over what's best for the team He got into a power struggle with the best pitching coach in baseball who left for Arizona He got into a power struggle with Click and Click was gone after putting together the best pen maybe ever (with all due respect to Lidge, Dotel, Wagner) And give me a break with the beloved throughout baseball crap, that just means the media drools over him. Find the Pena interview on MLB radio last week, he was rolling through the interview and then asked about playing for Dusty and everything slowed down, he had to think out every word he said so he didn't mess up, he knew he had to say what he was supposed to. Bregman spoke up a couple of weeks ago basically pleading for us to put our best team out there on a daily basis He did win a Championship though, only took him 29 years and that pitching staff that Click put the finishing touches on
I feel very similar as you MadMax. I go back a bit further. I balled my eyes out in 1980 when Astros finally made the play-offs and lost to the Phillies, they had such a huge push to get in the play-offs after losing the most dominating pitcher in baseball to a stroke mid season. I can deal with the negative Nancys here I just laugh away at most of them. I have realized they aren't me, they don't embrace the struggle that they have no control over. Do I love Dusty and sing his praises? No way. But those players by most all accounts LOVE him. They have adopted his calmness in the mist of the chaos that is a 162 game grind with the eye on the ultimate prize. Just a reminder I blamed Hinch for 2019 short comings. All managers make mistakes. Anyway MadMax drink your favorite Irish beverage and learn to laugh at some of these crazy negative comments about the greatest franchise in Houston sport. I'm here with you. Good news they'll be quite tonight Astros currently crushing Arlington Rangers 14-1.
Delete this thread if you want. But you dont have to feel sorry about it. I know its odd that '86 to '2017 already feels a "romanticized" era of pure vibes, and its more cutthroat results fans now. But these goobers here surely DONT feel bad about anything, why should you feel bad lol? And why not be something of an eras ambassador? These fans are investing into it so they can validate something of worth. Why can't decades of following not amount into.. something of worth? Its at least another perspective offered. My opinion from afar of the board, I'm not a deep baseball guy. But even the naggy fans at least provide some interesting data to back up the claim. Which maybe is what creates more hardened opinions. Still I TOTALLY agree on varience of day to day / week to week results though. Like Alex Bregman has been quietly solid Breg after another slow start. But its been incremental. Looking at it from each at bat, probably wont notice the fuller play. The lazy takeaway is.. I can see both sides of it. And can add that I think some the current issues were known back in June when the first panic button was pushed, which increases the frustration today
Does he kill puppies? Did he hit on your wife? Does he cheat on his taxes? Have some perspective on what being a "shitty human being" really means. It's not "puts out a less than optimal lineup card".
@The Beard says: Bregman spoke up a couple of weeks ago basically pleading for us to put our best team out there on a daily basis when did this happen?
It's amazing how some posters are more upset with posters complaining about losing games than they are about losing games.
I had to check but yeah we are in first place despite all the injuries and Dusty starting Olde Moldy, the worst 1B performance for the second season in a row. Oh and we won the WS last year and everyone still has us circled on their colander including the peanut vendor. It's the lack of appreciation for all the perseverance compared to the abundance "Ryan Pressly is trash" type threads. Baseball is the king of ebb and flow. Madmax stated it pretty spot on. I get it it's a fan site so we get both sides but they're very few in the middle and that's what Max is asking for more people in the middle. This site used to be filled with much more people in the middle now we have The Lunatic Fringe leading the pack.
The Astros are on first place because of a weak division. The Astros have 3 starting pitchers who needed load management a month ago. But they can't be managed. Why is it? Because the manager has punted too many games by playing subpar lineups and now his team is desperate for every win. Let some posters tell it... @Buck Turgidson.... the Astros are NOT in first place.
I'm glad you made this thread, @MadMax . Your feelings very much echo mine and I LOVE to read that passion for my team. So I hope the thread isn't deleted even though it hasn't gone how you like it to. And I think Major summed it up pretty well. The folk that contribute the most to the insufferability of game threads are the very ones least likely to change or rein it in, so you just kind of have to accept it. I've pretty well taken to staying out of game threads as a result. It sucks because this is still the best decade stretch of Astros baseball in our history and I want to enjoy and revel in that, but reading the negativity just brings me down, so I avoid it. I love the connection you have with your boy through the Astros. I wish my son had ever taken to enjoying baseball the way I do. I tried, but he just didn't get it, so we connect in other ways, but I'm totally jealous of you for that. Cherish it. Maybe I can have that with my grandkids if they end up loving baseball.
I love the Astros. Always have, always will. I can't take the emotional roller coaster of this season, which is why I try to stay off the board during the bad times because I don't need reminding that we have struggled to take control of the division when we've been given the chance this year. It 100% doesn't feel like our year, but I remember that everything went wrong in 2020 and yet we were a game away from the World Series. The only team that seems substantially better than us is the Braves, and we swept them in Atlanta.
Dude the division is the strongest it's been since the Astros started their run. What are you talking about?
