Brooks is a better defender, but he's a liability on offense so it's a wash. The whole team was terrible on defense last year, so you would think Udoka could've helped the team improve in that regard. KJ Martin is only 22, and is a solid shot blocker, rebounder, and has crazy athleticism. IMO, I don't think it's a KJM vs Brooks debate. We traded KJM for two measly seconds while keeping Jae'sean Tate on the roster. I don't understand that. Also, I still don't understand why Stone paid Brooks 4 yrs/$80M when everyone thought he was only worth $12M-16M per year. We really didn't need Brooks since we were already stacked at the wing position. He's a dirty player that tries to do too much and will make frustratingly dumb decisions on the court.
Brooks is a great defender that is capable of big offensive nights and carrying a team when needed, its going to be up to Udoka to control and manage his players ego and play style. Brooks is a luxury, when your defensive anchor can do what he did vs Spain that's a plus for any team in the league. Brooks will be the main reason why The Rockets are finally back to winning.
So bad he had his career game against my national team. We were 12 points up with one quarter left. But happy as a Rockets fan after seeing what he can do when he is focused
KJM is just bad. All he did here was jump. Everything else he is mediocre/bad. But I can't blame people by overrating KJM. In a team that couldn't win, I guess some flashy dunks made their nights slightly better. Lol.
Brooks shooting 60% from 3 makes him the greatest man to ever touch a basketball. Far more impressed with the 6.5 FGA per game number.
Again….no one has posted any videos of his bad defense or any metrics stating he was bad at defense. Sengun is bad, Harden is bad, Green is bad at D….KJM was good af D and blocked a heck of a lot of shots. One year he blocked every 7 footer in the league. He shot 50+ percent from the field and averaged 17 points a game in the games he started. We gave him away for a bag of chips and replaced him with 87 million dollar Brooks, which is clearly a worse player. I like Brooks defense, but you could’ve added Thybulle for a late second rounder and had the nearly the same result. Thybulle and Austin Reeves together would have cost us much much less than Dillon. Paying a defensive specialist 87 million and losing KMJ is a dagger to this team’s immediate future. Would love to have Brooks too, but think his fair value is closer to 40 million for 4 years….not 87 million.
Lol ....Kenyon Martin jr was a 22 year old while Brooks is a 27 year old. You tell me that Kenyon cannot work on his defense in a 5 year time span. But I guess people on here have nothing to do than compare finished players to developing players. KM is not even getting 22-23 million a year for dunking. He is getting 1.9 million per year. Before that Dillon was paid 12 million a year by the Grizz. (That was a decent contract too) I am not even sure why people cannot even comprehend finance. That is the value of his contract. (And yes, good old slam dunks bring merchandise and ticket sales)
Sometimes you just gotta call it like it is. The dude has sucked on offense in the NBA, full stop. Sucked. No ifs, ands, or buts. He has sucked on that end. Those are the results he's had, and they don't lie. If he turns it around and becomes a good offensive player I'll be as happy as anybody else. Hope these Olympic qualifiers are a sign of good things to come.
sucked is being VERY generous, you can easily argue he's the single worst non center in the nba on offense
Not sure about this franchise player tag, but I'm curious to see what Brooks and Dort can do with Luka Doncic tomorrow. If there's one team that's built to give Slovenia problems, it's Team Canada.
KMJ was not even talked about after going to the Clippers but somehow Dillon fans started this after he was overpaid and got his 4 years. KMJ did not even have his franchise thread.........everyone has one. Dillon has 3 or 4 of them. Like Dillon he was also a 2nd rounder who is improving his game, people should not hype or hate young players. That is the mantra.
He had a bad year, but he looked quite competent in 2021. Way better on O than many other defense-first wings like P.J.Tuck, Thybull… He can put in on the floor, step-back, he’s got moves. Just the percentages last year were dismal…
