You could say that one guy is more efficient just because he is a god shooter and Magic was by far more creative and pass first. If you go by efficiency you go with Steph, if you go with creativity Magic. Magic to me was a PG in a PF body so a lot of points will come around the paint and the rim. I do not think the gap is as wide as people think, those 2 bring different things to the table.
To me it's about accomplishments/awards more than anything. That's the only way you can compare across eras IMO. Magic: 12 ASG, 3 FMVPs, 3 MVPs, 9 1st, 1 2nd All-NBA Curry: 9 ASG, 1 FMVP, 2 MVPs, 4 1st, 4 2nd, 1 3rd All-NBA Clearly Magic wins that. On pure talent you could certainly argue Curry is better, but that's just the general rule as you go through time, players get more talented.
In Ervin Johnson era the PG was not supposed to shoot 3s in huge numbers. Shooting from the logo. Now they do.....that is how Curry changed the game to a whole new dimension. On that alone, he is in the conversation. Magic did things Curry could not do, and Curry did things Magic could not do like shooting. Curry did not need to pass to everyone because he was a walking 3 point shot. Also your evalution is pretty old school but Curry is all New School. New Parameters.
Analytics and rule changes are the reason the league is 3-point happy. That happens with or without Curry. Look no further than our own team. Curry isn't capable of passing to everyone. He isn't great at setting folks up and turns the ball over too much. It's why you see him going lotto when his team isn't stacked. He is an elite scorer. I wonder how he hopped Oscar Robertson though, who was a better scorer and elite passer. He avg 30/10 like 6 times.
I know that but even when you hypothetically play a team around Prime Magic vs Prime Curry. They would tend to use modern rules, at least from the modern era rather than from the 80s and the early 90s. That is just not going to happen. I do not have a problem saying an antique player/ player from an older generation is better, is just very hard to compare to the modern standard, the modern level of competition. What he is, he is a better passer, rebounder, other stats and a better finisher at the rim due to his PF body.
