That brings a whole new perspective to concealed carry.

Any chance of us picking up any of the players put on waivers? I wouldn’t mind one of Clevinger, Giolito, Matt Moore or Reynaldo Lopez.

You’re on the hook for the entire contract on waiver pickups. As opposed to guys that are DFA’d or unconditionally released, then you can get those at the minimum.

I know the Stros have likely exceeded the tax with JV’s pro-rated deal… but not sure what would happen with more additions.

We're only paying for one month as opposed to the entire season, so, if we are awarded Matt Moore off the waivers, then his $7.5M salary is prorated (about $1.25M against the spending tax).
Matt Moore is who I really want, but we're pretty low on the waiver list so I think someone with priority over us will claim him.

Matt Moore would be such a great pickup but yeah don’t think he’s going to make it to us.

Tonight the team that was on the field needs to play most of the games.

    off the waiver wire

    Bring me:
    Giolito (starting pitcher)
Harrison Bader (CF) or Hunter Renfro (CF)
    Matt Moore (left handed reliever)

and we got this World Series

We have priority on the waiver wire over Rangers and Mariners by percentage points. Dana Brown and Dusty are playing chess, not checkers.

From the MLB trade rumors article
Giolito is making $10.4MM this year, without about $1.9MM left to be paid out. For Renfroe, those figures are $11.9MM and $2.18MM. For Moore, $7.55M and $1.38MM. López, $3.625MM and $633K. Leone is $1.5MM and $275K. Grichuk’s case is slightly more complicated since he’s making $9.33MM this year as part of the extension he signed with the Blue Jays, though that club is eating $4.33MM of that while the Rockies also sent some cash considerations is to the Angels when trading them Grichuk and C.J. Cron. There’s about $1.71MM left to be paid out though a claiming team wouldn’t be responsible for all of it.

I would guess Houston would claim Giolito, Lopez, and Moore if they get to them. Jose Cisnero might be worth a flier too. Bader or Renfroe don’t really represent an upgrade imho. Lopez and Moore seem like logical candidates for Houston to pursue this offseason so that might make it even better to claim them now. But I don’t expect any of those players to make it to Houston.

Matt Moore would pretty nice. You can never have enough BP arms that you can somewhat trust.

Yeah, stupid Angels. They could have gotten some prospects for Moore and not lose prospect for Giolito. All in a last ditch effort to keep Ohtani.

FanGraphs has the Astros about $10M under. Cot's has the Astros $5M under, but does not seem to subtract the money the CWS paid Graveman. I'd guess the Astros will remain under even if they get 2 or 3 of those guys.

    Not a Chas fan?

Granted, Dubon has been hitting when at CF, but I think that is random luck that he is having a hot streak right when he's getting CF time.

I thought the waiver wire game played after the trade deadline was to see if the player can clear the waiver wire so that a trade could then be made. Isn't this how we got JV from the Tigers?

Any player claimed is just then pulled back. The Angels FO is involved, so all bets are off, though.
