I think Johnnie has taken a bigger role in all aspects of the game and THAT is why we're seeing a drop off.
“It’s like a young QB. How many young QBs come in and take over right away?” If someone can pass this along to Dusty and if Dusty can join us in the year 2023, that’d be great!
I am still mad how Dusty gave a grand total of two innings to Yainer to catch last year as a September call-up when everything was locked up.
Theory: Baker cares too much about padding the win totals for his starting pitchers... hence, why the likes of Bielak, Urquidy, and Javier are consistently left in past their expiration date.
Interesting. Still mad, even though it made zero difference in any way in that season (we won the World Series), this season (he'd still be playing Maldy over Diaz), or at all?
Long term consequences... still would have had home field if you give Yainer some playing time last year, so you don't have excuse at the beginning of the season that Maldy "needs" to start 80-90% of the games because your backup has 2 innings of defense at the major league level.
You honestly think Dusty would have done anything different this year had Yainer played a few more innings last season? Seems unlikely.
If you want to put Dusty on the FHA program you have to let him screw this up. It will leave you no choice but to Fire His Ass.
I know you're not remotely objective about Dusty and nearly every post is some gripe or sarcastic take, but this is just a bad take. The bullpen is equally gassed as the rotation. If you can get a few more innings out of the starters, you at least try. At the minimum it's no worse a strategy asking a gassed bullpen to pitch more innings. And just take a step back and touch some grass man. You're fixated on Dusty and it's weird and definitely negative for the board.
Urquidy showed he was available and could go 4 IP. I saw what happened to 130+ pitch Kerry Wood. SO SHOVE IT.
Thats called a Fireball melt... throw in some edible gummies... maybe some adderall as well.... (relatively certain tequila was involved with that one too)
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/te...Dusty-Baker-s-response-to-lineup-17368324.php 9/1/23 - Dusty sits Chas in favor of Meyers for the Yankees... flash back to 8/10/22: The skipper sat outfielder Chas McCormick against Rangers lefthander Cole Ragans after he didn’t play Tuesday against southpaw Martín Pérez. McCormick is slugging .589 with a .991 OPS in 77 plate appearances against lefthanded pitching this season. Aledmys Díaz, he of a .764 OPS in 82 plate appearances against southpaws, started in left field instead “It’s just not straight OPS,” Baker said. “That’s fan stuff. “I mean, Díaz was hot as hell. There’s only one other place for (McCormick) to play, and he wasn’t going to play in front of (Kyle) Tucker. It depends on which lefty I match him up against. He doesn’t play against every lefty. He faced a couple lefties yesterday and struck out a couple times, too."
