Populism leads when our leaders fail to deliver on their promises or uphold a social contract people largely agree upon with their votes. Republican establishment tried putting in stiffs like Rubio or Bush. Cruz might've even won the primary if Trump didn't take over. Trump started off as a hail mary F U vote to the establishment, where they didn't care if they were lied to if they got some of the things they wanted. Biden has worked to improve blue collar lives, but folks are still being stretched. When that happens, the door opens for hucksters like Trump or Tucker to spread their nationalist brand.
