You can’t change their minds on facts because it’s not about facts or the truth. It’s a sport to them and the only way to get people to get disinterested in the sport they love is to lose repeatedly and in embarrassing fashion. These guys like ATW, Basso, etc. know what they are doing. They enjoy the sport of it more than anything. You can see the tactics they play like when they pull the gaslighting card as easily as we could see the Stockton/Malone pick and roll in the 90’s.

Saw that this morning in Ramaswamy’s interview on MTP. Chuck Todd quoted his own book where Ramaswamy writes that he’s seen no evidence of fraud that would swing the election. Ramaswamy then tilts to talking about electronic interference in covering up the Hunter Biden laptop story and claims they would’ve swayed enough independents to swing the election.

It is gaslighting and contradiction with no consistency just to rule up the base.

 

The key with the gaslighting tactic is to put the question in their mind of “if I call out something will I in turn be going against my own principles?”

The most blatant one used is when ATW is getting his facts checked and without any personal attacks he just says that we are being “hateful”. It’s an attempt to get us to question if we are being nice (since I’m sure most of us are nice respectful people) and then we’ll come back with an approach to give him an unearned benefit of the doubt, which then gives him a chance to push his narrative more.

With Republicans they’ve mastered this at the media level and really understand how to work the refs by playing the victim before anyone has even had the chance to engage with their arguments.

Trump Humpers will argue semantics and try to kick the can. I can just see Basso and ATW now… well it’s not a “real” crime… well it’s not a violent crime… well it’s not 1st degree murder… well he’s not a serial killer…

 

So not quite January, and not quite 2026. A compromise of sorts. trump will cry, regardless.

 

Will be interesting to see how long they can make jury selection take, motions they file at the last second etc. I'm still not convinced we'll have a verdict before November 2024.

Not the same thing as "guilty." In criminal court, the burden of proof is 'beyond reasonable doubt'. In civil court it is ' more likely than not.' Not trying to defend Trump here so much as defend the judiciary.

 

Yep that's why I said "In Civil Court." Implying that it's not the same burden of proof of federal or state court.

I just would note that the MAGA tribe loves to get arguments caught up into semantics as a way to obfuscate Trump's wrongdoings. The question is... "Is Trump a criminal and/or sexual assaulter.".... so far is.... yeah pretty much... which SHOULD BE bad enough to not follow him as a cleric or political leader in a healthy Democracy.
