Article in today's Yahoo Sports: 'He’s a God-fearing man that’s also borderline gangster’: Why the Houston Astros can't quit the worst catcher in baseball
Hopefully Dusty isn’t brought back on another one-year deal and Hopefully not Alex Cintron or Brad Ausmus
I think Espada needs the position. He has earned it, the players swear by him, and he has the experience with the organization during Hinch, Dusty, Luhnow, Click, and Brown
With how it's been, I question if the players backing means anything. But I wouldn't mind Espada, like you said, he's been here for awhile.
He would be the natural in-house option. I don't know enough about the staffs on other teams to have an opinion on any other 1st-timers. A retread, since I can't think of an unemployed one at the moment, doesn't necessarily do much for me.
Hinch would be great. Joe Madden would kill with this team. I’d be good with anyone from the Atlanta or San Francisco organizations. It’s not hard- just get someone online with analytics that understands math and won’t actively antagonize the clubhouse. just have a manager be average, and not one that’s costing us 7 or 8 games a year. There’s no excuse for that. And that’s the butchers bill from Dusty lineups. Roughly 5 WAR at catcher, 1 or 2 in the OF and 1 at 1B, 1 at sun optimal lineup construction. That’s not even taking into account running down the starters, using wrong guys in the bullpen, bewildering extra inning strategy etc. that’s just demonstratively proveable and clear cut math. Nobody else is playing with that kind of boat anchor around their neck. Anyone the Astros hire (that doesn’t actively antagonize the clubhouse) will alleviate almost the entirety of that problem.
This would be interesting to talk with you about, but not right now. I have agreements and disagreements. Start a "Next Astros Manager" thread on the next off day.
seems like the easiest solution would be to demand Dusty fire one of his coaches, Dusty will become insubordinate and refuse. At this point you have no choice but to fire Johnny.
The broken bat single didn't help And not just 4th game in 6 days, one of those games he came in with a 5 run lead Makes perfect sense huh
No Maldy, and Yordan back to 3rd One of the year's best lineups Yordan doesn't seem far from returning to form -- deep flys and a walk yesterday. If Abreu is supposedly healthy, he needs to play better.
Abreu is the weak link here. I am almost completely out of faith. 1B is such a glaring hole. 57 RBI 10 home runs Horrible
