It's quite astonishing how some folks claim human trafficking is a hoax, just like the classic "climate change is a hoax" argument. Ignoring mountains of evidence, they assert that reports of exploitation and suffering are all just part of some elaborate conspiracy. But just as the scientific community has reached a consensus on climate change, experts universally agree that human trafficking is a real and harrowing issue. Denying its existence only perpetuates the problem and prevents us from taking meaningful action to combat this grave violation of human rights.
I don't think I've heard anyone deny that human trafficking exist. I think there is a lot of debate about how much it is happening and who is being trafficked.
I never heard it called a hoax. It's real, and it's disgusting how many men in the world like raping women and kids caught up in being sold, raped, and abused by force, fear, and disgusting and dangerous pimps, who treat women and kids like property. How can there be so much evil? I hate to even speculate on the deep and disturbing stuff out there on the dark web. What's scariest of all is how many of these sexual deviants lead double lives in their communities, and come from all walks of life. The punishment for those paying for these children should be life behind bars. I have no sympathy for any pedophile. They are sick in the head.
I've never heard it called a hoax. The only complaints I hear from the left are that the right is exploiting a real issue that needs to be addressed in order to push conspiracy theories that advance their political agenda. EX: Qanon theory "The Storm." By fighting against these Conspiracy theories like "The Storm" it's actually doing favors to the real cause of trying to fight this thing the right way at the root of the problem.
Where have you heard anyone say that before? I may not be interested in paying money for a propaganda movie with a ton of inaccuracies/flat out lies, but that doesn't mean I think human trafficking is a hoax.
I`ve never heard anyone say its a hoax, hell just turn on the news on any given night and we have some evil people out there. It needs to be addressed but rooted in reality and not some political football that people use to further their agenda. It's just like the border, no one seems to want to really fix the root cause, both sides just use it as a rallying cry for their narrative. ......my jaded self thinks they don't want to actually fix it, just keep putting a band aid on it so we can use it as a talking point in 4 years
Nobody says it is a hoax. Literally nobody. What I have heard and what I agree with, is that films like "Taken" or "The Sound of Freedom" (if perceived as a typical form of sex trafficking) actually do more harm to the cause of fighting sex trafficking. This is because these films give the impression that they are the reality of sex trafficking. However in the real world, they are nothing like actual sex trafficking. Very very few people are kidnapped by strangers and sold into sex trafficking. The overwhelmingly vast majority of trafficking victims are coerced and forced into sex work by people they know. They are typically family or friends that they have met at school, parties, clubs, church (yes even church) or online. They are people with whom they have developed some type of relationship. Sex traffickers love movies like "Taken" or SOF because they draw the attention and resources away from fighting the real problems. SOF was a real problem because it throws blame towards the border, government elite, and immigrants - none of which are the actual problem. https://polarisproject.org/myths-facts-and-statistics/ "The most pervasive myth about human trafficking is that it often involves kidnapping or physically forcing someone into a situation. In reality, most traffickers use psychological means such as, tricking, defrauding, manipulating or threatening victims into providing commercial sex or exploitative labor" https://www.mbfpreventioneducation.org/myths-vs-facts-trafficking/ MYTH: Trafficking victims are held against their will, locked up, and physically unable to escape captivity. Fact: Although this is sometimes the case, more often, victims stay in trafficking situations for many reasons. Some lack the basic necessities to physically get out (like money, transportation, or a safe place to live), some are afraid for their safety, and some have been so effectively manipulated that they do not realize they are under the control of a predator. https://bridgenorth.org/about-human-trafficking/sex-trafficking-myths/ Myth: You never get to see your family when you are trafficked Fact: Survivors report that, in some cases, they were actually living at home with their parents while being trafficked. Sometimes movement from city to city takes place, but not always. Some survivors even report that they continue to attend school while being trafficked to maintain the illusion that everything is fine. While most traffickers try to isolate their victims from supportive relationships, like family and friends, victims may still see their family during this time. https://www.rollingstone.com/cultur...freedom-child-trafficking-experts-1234786352/ Why Anti-Trafficking Experts Are Torching ‘Sound of Freedom’ "What they are learning is so divorced from reality that it does sling back to create harm,” says Albright. “It creates harm when certain policies aren’t passed because we think trafficking looks one way and it’s another way. It creates harm when victims don’t recognize themselves in these narratives.” Another unintended consequence of sensationalist anti-trafficking narratives is that they can obscure juries’ perception of what trafficking looks like when these cases are actually brought to court. “When you have a case of really subtle coercion that’s hard to prove, and the jury is expecting Taken, you’re not gonna get a conviction… and it makes that much harder for survivors,” says Albright.
