VORP is only one stat and it uses box score to calculate so it undervalues defensive players who don’t generate a lot of steals or blocks ie boxscore stats, I have mentioned Lu Dort before as an example, PJ tucker is another who both have below average VORP but universally accepted as plus starters. RAPTOR, LEBRON, RAPM all do a better job of accounting for defense, and they all rate Brooks as an average to good starter over the years.
In the international games Canada defeating Spanish, Dillon Brooks put up with 5 pts 3 assists while ex-Rockets Garuba with 10 pts 8 rebounds 5 steals...Plus Dillon played 6 more mins... Rockets franchise player and Good-for-nothing player in fans' eyes. Lmao.
I have no problem with trash talk, just back it up. Not only did Brooks not back it up, he laid a bunch of stinkers and went completely silent. Now he's yapping again. I don't understand why the Rockets think he'll be good for the culture of our young squad. He blamed his poor shooting on not having enough attempts in Memphis' offense, got fined for dodging the press, and was told by Memphis that he would not be brought back under any circumstances. For most teams these would be red flags. For us that makes him leader material.
Hopefully his leadership will be limited to the defensive side of the court and sharing defensive knowledge with Jabari/Tari. Udoka doesn't strike me as a coach who would let someone yap excessively without backing it up but who knows. He's only been a HC for one season.
looks like hes still an idiot yapping his mouth. great job with the $80 mil guaranteed deal with 4 long years
I remember reading Udoka was the one who wanted him, so we'll see where this goes. Should make for an interesting season. I generally don't like players like Brooks, but I'll wait and see what Udoka can do with him.
I mean Patrick Beverley is a player like Brooks if we're talking about how they talk trash and play tough defense. I still love Bev. I really enjoyed his time on the Rockets.
Beverley seems like a nice guy off the court. I don’t know brooks well but he seems like a chance he would have bullied people in high school.
Beverley has had multiple seasons in his career with above league average efficiency and only 1 season in his career above 10 FGA per game. He also shot 37-40% from 3 in his prime, making him one of the actual “3&D” role players in the league who lived up to the description in both areas. Thus he is not a player like Brooks.
There was something likable about Patrick, but regarding basketball, I never thought "for the love of God, stop shooting" with Patrick Beverley - for the most part, he knew his role and played it well. I don't care about talking trash - a lot of players do it. Just don't make yourself look like an idiot after you act like you're going to shut somebody down and then go off and try being Steph Curry on offense when you know you're not. With Bev, even though he was on my team, and as the saying goes "you love them when they're on your team and hate them when they play against you", I don't think I ever hated the dude even on other teams. Maybe it was his "charisma" or something. I was hoping he would just shut up, lay low, and just be a solid defender and vet presence after he got here, tbh. I don't want the kind of headlines Brooks was creating last year for this team. Maybe I'll grow to like him - who knows. But for right now, I'm still in the "just shut up and just show me what you've got" instead of headlines like this.
that's an insult to Bev. Bev never ducked the media or anything regarding his aggressive play. Owned up to whatever good/bad. He also was never delusional and b****ed about needing more shots or complained about offense. He clearly understood his role and what he needed to do to contribute. He shot the ball well and also never commanded a huge 4 year 80mil guaranteed deal. He was paid like the role player he is. All of this is the opposite with Dillon Sucks
Brooks talking isn't the problem, it just reveals it. "I poke bears. I don't respect no one until they give me 40" is a dumb mindset IMO. Avoiding the press after that was weak. Now, months after he played like crap and his team got bounced he says "I feel like I always had him." He's clueless. How are you supposed to limit the leadership of a guy with that mentality? The fact that you want to limit the leadership of one of our new veterans is clearly a bad sign.
Man, I really hate that we signed this idiot. I hope he performs well but there's just something I don't like about him.
You wear a Darth Vader mask and verbally annihilate your team louder than any of them would dare talk:
