I think Diaz has a little ADHD. He needs the action to stay engaged.

    It's juvenile, no doubt

Kind of a funny observation because it’s somewhat accurate, his production has been insane with a lot still left to improve on. I think he might be as pure talented as anyone on the team.

Nothing juvenile about a brain chemicals. It is what it is. You just have to work around it.

It takes one to know one. I'm the same way. Alvarez hits almost 50 points better when playing left field. His OPS is 1.070 versus .919 career when playing in the field.

I think it’s very likely Diaz is a better hitter when playing a position, as this is generally true for all hitters. I doubt though the difference is as dramatic as his currents splits suggest.

I would rather let Diaz get more reps at first and DH Singleton

The same, though no reason for him to play DH when he's the only somewhat playable C and 1B on the roster to risk finding out this year.

Maldy is the one unplayable at C as a pass ball machine that can't throw anyone out

My post was meant to mean that no one on the roster besides Diaz should be starting right now at 1B or C. Though DIaz can play only 1 position at a time. No reason to even test that Diaz will get better at DH right now.

I seriously think Dusty is playing Diaz at 1B and Singleton DHing because Dusty fully expects Diaz at 1B in the playoffs w/ Maldy catching. He is getting Diaz reps.

For at least Verlander. For Framber, Alvarez can play left and Diaz can DH.

I just don't know with Dusty. When he played Monday at 1B, I thought maybe Dusty was trying to meet Brown halfway...I'll play your guy at first if you don't make me play him at catcher (or Brown told him to play Diaz at C or 1B, and Dusty choose 1B). Yesterday with Diaz not in the lineup until Doormegedon, nope Dusty was back to being Dusty.

I love coming to this thread to read the stats and get excited about Yainer.. but at this point, it’s just pissing me off. So ridiculous this is allowed to continue when we are losing the race for playoffs. Dana and Jim need to step in. If anyone in the locker room wants to cry about it let them speak up, but honestly I think dusty is just hiding behind this BS He can catch verlander but the rest he’s on the bench.

First - in fairness to Dusty Baker, just about every move he fought for against the GM last year turned out right down the stretch. Can that all be lucky? Possibly - but the fact remains what he fought for last year worked.

Second, Martin Maldonado has not been an Astro for 6 seasons because of Dusty Baker. There are a number of people in the front office, coaches and pitchers that are big fans of Maldonado. Now, in fairness to your point, I don’t know if the people in the front office still support Maldonado but they did last year - the two that didn’t are gone.

Also the pitchers have felt very strongly about Maldonado for a long time.

Having said all that - I personally think Diaz should play every day and a majority of those days behind the plate. I rolled my eyes at the statement from Dusty Baker today.

However - I wouldn’t dismiss Dusty Baker’s knowledge of the game or his intelligence. People can disagree with him - including myself but - the level of dismissiveness to me is foolish.

When Dusty makes a clear senile statement, then I will dismiss it as it should be.
