Drew Gilbert has been a below average AA hitter since he got to the Mets and Ryan Clifford has a 43.5% k rate for the Mets High A affiliate. I’m just not sure they would be thriving in the Astros lineup right now lol.

Just don't know why the Mets Media are Raving about those Two.

I really like Luis Baez, any Thoughts, is he a Center Fielder?

Baez, by all accounts, will not be a CF. Corner. Probably LF. His position is "hitter"

Not defensively. Adley is also a natural team leader type. Adley also walks a whole lot more than Diaz.

Adley has a noodle arm and not as much thump as Diaz. They are pretty similar in overall value. I mean, if Diaz actually played.

There is little doubt that Baez is a corner guy. If everything goes just right he may be a right fielder just when we need one most.
I penciled Meyers in as a LF/1st baseman the day he was drafted and am sticking with that prognostication.
Mathews bat down in A ball is the most interesting bat in the system right now and he looks like a potential 2nd baseman to me. If we can hang on to Altuve for a few more years he will need to play at DH eventually. Mathews will fit in to that 2nd base spot nicely.

I was ambiguous - I meant “at-bats as catcher” to show that he is getting far fewer chances despite being so much ahead of the competition (the whole league, not just Maldonado).

But these stats are amazing too … and a reason why the “Diaz is in the lineup, so stop complaining” crowd is so misguided. His performance at DH is so much worse.

Imagine Diaz as C and a competent DH nearly every day next year … life could be so nice.

I really hate the catcher of the future label for the guy that is 13th in fWAR among catchers this season (12th if only looking at time at catcher).

What a thing to hate! 12th for a rookie that has been held back by his manager for a guy that makes Mendoza look like Babe Ruth.

I'd rather Yainer be treated as the catcher of the now.

So true, but we have also have Dusty as the manager of the now. The reality of the situation is we need Diaz’ bat in the lineup everyday. If Dusty insists on Maldy at catcher then Diaz has to play 1b

Does that mean we have to like it? I don't.

Diaz has NOT caught 79 games though. Almost half the time he's been DH -- because Maldy gotta get his -- where he hits MUCH worse than playing in the field.
