He had a couple solid throws. But still nothing spectacular. He looks scared, not quick enough with reads. He needs time and reps, so we will see how he does. This team is still going to be bad, we’re going to miss out on far superior prospects in Williams and Maye unfortunately
Not saying Stroud is Manning or Brady yet, because he's a rookie BUT those are some unbelievable throws....and considering how accurate those sideline throws were.....that's TALENT

When I look at Stroud the main thing that jumps out is effortless zip/touch on his throws. He throws a beautiful ball and thus far has been very accurate as well. If he can hone that combination of zip, touch, and accuracy, coverage doesn't matter because no defense can stop those completions. He doesn't need to "outsmart" the defense nearly as much since his balls are so perfect. Think if he can learn to navigate the pocket and buying time from pressure, to give him a solid chance of throwing an accurate ball, he will be very successful.
I see that as well and I'm happy at this point that we have him as our QB1. As he gets more experience, he will get better.
The only bad plays were: 1 busted route or read where he thought the receiver was breaking to the back of the endzone and instead he stayed a LB blitz
I dont know much about the intricacies of being a solid NFL quarterback, or strategist, or play-caller, or offensive guru... but i've liked this dude for a few years now and my "layperson" overview so far matches what his conclusion was... .. BETTER Unclear to me where it goes from here and maxes out, but definitely some things to really like, definitely a lot of issues on the offense and not him, and definitely some things to fix. Id be curious to know if there is any meaningful correlation between pre-season performance and ultimate long-term performance. It'd be really hard to figure out I guess, because its not JUST a stat based thing. As much feel to how they "look" as what the stats say I'd guess. Has anyone changed their view on CJ based on 2 pre-season games?
I can't say I've changed my opinion, but I am encouraged by some of the throws and plays he made in GM2. However, I'm preparing myself for a rougher year than I initially had hoped for. Slowik is a rookie coordinator and it showed after DP's INT. We're going to have some growing pains and that's to be expected. I hope he gets to play at least a full quarter if not 2 against NO. I think he really just needs more reps at game speed.
I've enjoyed JT's QB videos in the draft build up these past couple of years. Great grasp of concepts, explains the look easily, and has a nice delivery without using a lot of filler words. Definitely been impressed.
Gotta disagree here. He made several nice reads and throws and a few really nice throws. He had two throws in particular, one on the run, that were big boy NFL throws. Not everyone can make those throws with the touch and accuracy required. That's better than average. CJ clearly still has a long way to go to earn his stripes but dismissing legitimate performance just isn't fair. It's fine if you don't like the kid but at least give him credit.
The deep outs were nice, but those are standard NFL throws. And they were open. Ball placement and zip was very good. There wasn’t a ton of reads in the game. Feels like people are excited for an average performance from how bad the first game was. It’s improvement for sure
When you look back at Watson's rookie year, he didn't get better by preseason game 4. C/ATT YDS AVG TD INT SACKS RTG Stroud Preseason Game 2 7/12 / 60 / 5 / 0 / 0 / 0 / 71.5 Watson Preseason Games 3 & 4 3/10 / 102 / 10.2 / 0 / 0 / 0 / 69.6 11/21 / 116 / 5.5 / 0 / 1 / 2-12 / 48.9
This is kind of where I am. Stroud has done some encouraging things but overall there's been a little bit of right-sizing expectations on my part, because I think the offense overall is still going to struggle most games. Some of that will be on CJ, some on Slowik, some on just lack of talent. I'm loving Tank Dell but have been pretty underwhelmed by every other WR so far in the preseason. That's not going to help CJ if his WR struggle to get separation.
