Peace for Ukraine is for Putin and his Russian military to get the hell out of their country. All of it. To pay massive reparations for what they have done to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. Last, but not least, to go on trial for the war crimes the Russian military, and Putin, have committed.

"Peace" for Putin is to hang on to the slowly dwindling parts of Ukraine that he has conquered, at the cost of a huge proportion of his military equipment and at an enormous cost in dead and wounded, a cost the extent of which the people of Russia are still unaware.

This "peace" of which you speak is unattainable. It is a dream of Putin's that amounts to surrender by democratic Ukraine, and Putin's "peace" is fiercely rejected by the Ukrainian people, their military, and their leadership.

It's also rejected by an overwhelming majority of the members of NATO, and rejected more than any country but Ukraine by the members of NATO in Europe who spent decades occupied by Russia's former empire, the empire Putin dreams of recreating, the Soviet Union.

The only Eastern European country who's leadership supports Putin is the “electoral autocracy” of Hungary, under the thumb of Viktor Orban. The man has been in power these last 13 years and busy insuring that he wins every election, crushing any semblance of freedom of the press, as well as freedom of expression on the campuses of Hungary's universities.

That's certainly my opinion. They are also facts.

Again ive said this a million times. You have no idea what Putin wants nor do I. The only people who know are the diplomats who are on the ground talking. You're just spewing 2nd hand information based upon things that you've read and seen. Nobody has a damn idea except the diplomats on the ground. Germany + UK are both pushing UKR for peace so im not sure where you're getting this fantasy that peace isnt something that majority of NATO countries want.

Next year is election season in UK + US + all throughout europe. In 2022 the ruling parties got smoked in EU bcz of high energy prices and everyone in government knows the same thing is going happen if the war drags on again. People in this thread have some crazy idea that Americans are going to vote for freedom over fascism. Bidens polling is literally in the dumps simply becaues of gas prices.

Again if Putin does not want a reasonable peace then I agree we shouldnt force one on UKR. If putin is willing to allow ukr to join nato or have a permeant us military base in ukr or some other form of security agreements that protects UKR long term then UKR has to take that peace deal. Reporting shows that Putin IS OPEN to a reasonable peace deal. If not then obviously we should keep arming UKR.

Biden is not going to survive 2024 if we have high gas prices + high apr as we do now. Im sorry but I dont want to live under a Trump presidency and have the world go to **** and lose all the progress we've made on climate.

There's a serious dichotomy between what little you know about foreign affairs and the size of your ego.

Reasonable people should be able to agree that we actually know a great deal of what Putin wants. Remove all the noise and just use logic and reason. It’s not that hard.

Why does Trump want to run for president?? What’s his campaign even about?? That’s easy on its face when you use the same logic.

Both guys are in survival mode and are making daily decisions based on what they need to do that day or hour to try to secure their freedom by staying in power. Trump knows he’s going to jail if he doesn’t win the presidency. He knew he’d go to jail if he didn’t overturn 2020 which is why he launched a coup. Putin knows
he can’t survive without drastic measures to secure Crimea and the port of Ukraine because the situation in Russia was going to spark a revolution if he didn’t act. He’s afraid of Democracy more than anything. Ukraine falling out of his corrupt grasp and turning the corner of Democracy spelled political doom for him.

This isn’t all that complicated even though the details are complicated. There’s no deal to be had with Putin. We can’t give him what he wants. The west probably only has one card to play here… making assurances with Russian military leaders and taking out Putin. Otherwise this war is likely to go on another 5 to 10 years.

With Trump there’s no need to overthink it either. He’s either going to win next November, everything goes away, and we lose our democracy to become more like what Hungary has now with a sham corrupt democracy.

It’s the not knowing what’s going to happen that sucks and gets into your head to where you overthink things or make yourself too nervous. People just need to show up next November and not vote third party. That’s it. Trump gets convicted and goes to jail for a few months then home confinement… then runs again in 2028. And Ukraine buys more precious time to allow for an inevitable change to happen organically in Russia.

Why can't you talk in good faith without making these sort of attacks? When have I ever said I'm all knowledgeable or smarter than anyone else? What did I say that was false or a lie?

Some folks are way too emotionally invested

Which part interests you? All of this was discussed well over a year ago.

Negative. What was discussed a year ago was cutting off access in Crimea and other Russian held areas. New reporting shows that musk has cut off starlink in battleground areas near the front line in kherson and northern ukraine which has always been under UKR

This isn't new reporting. The takeaways were the following:
-Starlink is not to be used in Russian territory (Yes, I understand 'Russian' territory is subjective)
-Starlink is not to be used as a weapon (again, subjective)
-(most importantly) Starlink is not ITAR compliant. Starlink was provided as a complimentary service. SpaceX can do whatever they want when it comes to providing service in this context. As the government was not paying for the service at the time, there was no contract of service. Its a two way street. No contract = no expectation of service from either government regulatory body or social pressure. The Ukraine conflict fast tracked the military/government/national security service that we now know as Starshield.

What many dont consider is that a global business who directly contributes commercial products to a war conflict could be held liable for damages later down the road. United States is not the global dictator (contrary to popular belief obviously) who can absolve any party of their alleged crime.

You really didn't respond to my post at all. A strange response from someone who posted this:

You keep bashing me cuz I'm simply forming a hypothesis based upon news reports that diplomats are negotiating. Putin economy is in the red. The ruble is dropping. The export controls have forced him to draw down on his inventory. Chips control have hit China as well so putin isn't getting any. Russia is suffering.

The better question is why would ukraine want peace? They will never have more support for the war than they do right now. Their government was in the red before the war. They weren't meeting their requirements. The government was filled with corruption according to the EU report of 2020. Now US tax payers are subsidizing Ukrainian pensions and payrolls for the entire government and back stopping the entire government

What am I saying that's false here for you to attack me personally. Again I support ukraine and again I'm only saying get a peace deal if putin is open to a reasonable deal

Because in that thread you state things that are objectively wrong that can be Googled in minutes. This is diff cuz nobody knows whats happening behind closed doors. I don't think I'm smarter than anyone else. All I do is form an opinion based upon facts available. People are quick to bash you as pro putin or whatever and it's ridiculous.

Sounds like Ukrainians are relying far too much on Starlink. Neither they nor their allies control it, so they shouldn't make their soldiers' lives depend on it.

if Putin was serious about peace he could start by stopping drone and missile attacks deep into Ukraine. He could call for a ceasefire or even unilaterally cease hostilities in a show of good faith. He's not doing any of that. Also one of his stated reasons for invading ukraine was that they were going to join NATO so why would he suddenly agree to allow that to happen?

Yes Russia is suffering economically from the war. Putin is showing no inclination to end it though.

Except how would you know what is going on behind closed doors either? You've accused others of acting as though they are right there with Putin but how would you know they are wrong unless somehow you know?

We're all debating and discussing from the facts that we read and hear from the news unless you actually know something the rest of us don't about the Kremlin. So far the facts are that Putin is showing no inclination to stop the war nor has he backed off even rhetorically from his stated reasons for the invasion.

Why would putin stop drone strikes if he wants to cause terror which would bring peace. Why did USA bomb Japan into submission? Why did we try bombing Vietnam/Afghanistan/Iraq into submission? Countries don't stop causing terror before peace. Cmon now

The big tell will be whether putin orders another round of mobilization. According to ISW and even Russian bloggers they desperately need another round of mobilization. If putin doesn't order it then he wants peace.

There are no other options that come close to starlink. Let me make this very clear. Since we gutted NASA, we are very far behind on space technology. The pace isn't Russia or China, it's our technological capabilities. We have them however they are vastly under utilized. There are no production ships that can meet demand cost. Until Starlink, we have been using 3 decade old satellite tech.
