So with Tucker out all series and us getting swept, doesn’t that make him more valuable than people think? He pretty much carried the load on offense at times this season. Everything you can nitpick is more magnified when you’re losing like we are. Hope he comes back soon.

Only if he somehow improves the starting pitching as well. But yes, most MVP candidates will be missed.

Yordan’s patented August slumps need to be less patented….

    Ok just looked it up..

I remembered that incorrectly and thought there was more of a deficit when he came in. I pardoned Dusty for that move, my bad. Now I will unpardon him. That was an awful move.

One would hope that Jim Crane takes note.

They went nuts in the final month, 26-4 iirc

eta: 22 in a row, when the streak started they were 69-56 (7 games behind the Stros), they finished 102-60. We finished 1 game behind them (and they had the tiebreaker)

Actually he's set out a nice picnic blanket on the edge of that cliff and is enjoying the view.

JP is about where he was last year across the board minus some bad defense, he's actually maintaining his player expectations. The ALCS and WS MVP, (Gold Glove to a lesser degree) are all skewing fans thoughts of who he really is. If he can ever hold off the low and outside and square up FBs again he'll be fine but he's in no way a perrenial AS.

I'd like to see Dubon put in his spot, out of center field, and he had some hits today. At least for a little while.

Nobody doesn't think Tucker is very valuable.

And they lose to the Yankees in the first round…

Seattle is hot as **** right now…. Likely playing the best baseball in all of baseball. Peaking now is great and all. means nothing. Not saying the Astros are going to still prevail because they sure as **** have to play better in all facets of the game… but panicking because another team is finally playing to their expectations is not really required.

In basketball terms, Daishen Nix called a team meeting.

It means whatever you want it to mean!

It means they’re about to get serious and go on a run and remind the league who it runs through. …or…

It means nothing as no words are going to make Dusty stop being Dusty or Jose Vizcaino(JP) turn back into the Jeremy Peña we know or the pitchers to start pitching better. (I mean, if they’re tired, fatigued, have dead arms, reached and exceeded their inning limits, need sufficient rest that a skipped start won’t matter and they can only get in the offseason…then who cares what was uttered?!)

    Got curious, went searching…
Honestly didn’t think “players-only” meetings were common in baseball. Apparently they are!

Yankees hold team meeting; were just swept by Red Sox
    August 10, 2023: Padres(55-60) hold players-only meeting; 4-6 since
    August 7, 2023: Marlins(58-56) hold players-only meeting; 6-5 since
June 30, 2023: Mariners(38-42) hold players-only meeting; 7-3 in next 10; currently 31-13(69-55) since (— “The Mariners called a similar players-only meeting last year, on June 19, when they were approaching rock bottom, but they went on to lose that day and fall to a season-high 10-games under .500. However, the story from there was well-chronicled, as they rattled off MLB’s fourth-best record (61-34) the rest of the way and ended their postseason drought. If the trajectory in 2023 has a similar outcome, they’ve yet to show it.”)
    June 28, 2023: Twins(40-42) hold players-only meeting; went 6-4 in next 10; currently 24-18(64-60) since
    May 25, 2023: Blue Jays(26-25) hold players-only meeting; went 7-3 in next 10; currently 42-31(68-56) since
    May 17, 2023: Padres(20-24) hold players meeting; went 5-5 in next 10; currently 39-
June 29, 2021: Yankees(40-38) hold players-only meeting; went 6-4 in next 10, finished season 52-32; lost in WC game to Boston

He is not the same hitter at the moment, to be sure.

Guys we got swept by the orioles late last season yet we still won a ring. Just learn from it and win the series against red sox.

    Take a deep breathe

    Probably because

    1. As disappointing as Pena has been, he is hitting for 130 more points of OPS than Maldanado
    2. Even with some mental errors, Pena is above average defensively at his position. Maldanado is one of the worst
    3. The only replacement for Pena at SS is Dubon, who has actually contributed a tiny bit less on offense than Pena. Maldanado has a replacement that would be one of the best in baseball at his position

    It's not that difficult
