I understand that, and I have no doubt of his preparation or intelligence. But ultimately if it does not show up on the field in any measurable way with any available statistic on either side of the ball over a large sample size, what is the benefit?

Perhaps Maldonado could turn that brilliant analytic mind to the Astros catching performance and come to the right objective conclusion?

As someone else beat me to it, at least he hits like 60 bombs a year while batting under 0.100. :).

There are at least 40 "I have grown to hate _____" titled posts across ClutchFans.

The latest one should be this thread.

When, anywhere outside of Dusty Bizarro world, Maldy would actually be the odd man out of the 3.

I think Greinke takes offense to your comment.

He seems like someone that works really hard, does the homework, and still fails the class but the knowledge, skills, and abilities just aren't there.

Except after every failing test, he threatens to shoot up the class, so the teacher passes him anyway.

With as many holes as we have in the lineup Contreras in and Diaz in and maldonado out would have been an absolute godsend. They could have split catching duties and filled in at LF/1B and DH where at times we’ve had glaring holes at all of the above.
You could literally straight up 50/50 catch the two 50/50 YA and Contreras in LF, 50/50 Diaz at 1B and DH.

Too dark for me... more likely he is the student having an affair with the teacher and would expose it if he fails.

Yep. Let's say Maldonado is the best catcher in history in preparation/intelligence, but that in itself might not overcome his negative offensive value. Not to mention statistically, it doesn't seem to have a positive impact on the defensive metrics.

Other teams are getting away without having this brilliantly prepared catcher. Verlander seemed to be the same as a Mets and as an Astros.

Sure, but that isn’t the real threat. As Nook has said, the threat is Maldy sulks and tears up the clubhouse. He isn’t threatening Dusty - he’s threatening the class. But I agree the analogy is too dark

Maldy sulks and tears up the club? Sounds like a dfa reason.

So what's the point of Maldy if he can't whisper sweet nothings to Framber on mound visits?

These pitchers are soft buffoons if they demand Maldy. And Dusty is the head honcho buffoon for not fixing shiiite.

This is second time in the last month Framber has melted down against a division rival after getting shelled and plucked the next batter. All under Maldys watch. I thought he was supposed to calm Framber down when he gets bent out of shape like this? J-Rox had to be the one to calm him down…the best player on the opposing team showing Maldy what true leadership looks like.

At this point Framber doesn't deserve to request a specific catcher. Diaz catches his next game.

I have to ask, at this stage...what is the point of having Maldonado catch? He brings nothing to the bat, the defense, the position, and even his heralded "planning" has shown no fcking results with the pitchers. So what good is he for to start for any SP right now?

Beltran was beloved in the clubhouse, but even he knew when it was needed to lower his playing time. Hinch had the courage to do that... yes, I know about the other stuff.
