Bud shouldn’t have asked for a new stadium when the Oilers were rebuilding.

I’m curious when the last Oilers home game was televised. I remember every home game was blacked out during the final years even the preseason games on Raycom lol

No… he shouldn’t have asked for a new stadium and threatened to move the team just 8 years after the last time he demanded something (Dome renovations) and threatened to move the team (Jacksonville).

In hindsight, of course they should have looked to build a new stadium rather than spend millions in taxpayer money (property taxes no less) to renovate the dome as a temporizing fix…. But this is how short-sighted and obnoxious of an owner he was, with zero friends with political power in a city he’d lived in forever.

In the end, the Titans franchise will always be valued less being in Tennessee vs. staying in Houston… and still nothing has ever been won of note.

He had threatened to move to Birmingham in the late 70's right before Luv Ya Blue happened too. The city had just had enough of his threats and called his bluff and this was the one time he actually was serious.

    Yep.

    Birmingham
    Jacksonville
    Nashville

He certainly had a fetish for cities that didn’t have any other major sports… and those latter two are always going to have lower franchise values and will always be fringe NFL markets.

I was there. I have no idea who they played or if it was on local TV (something makes me want to say the Ravens?). It was weird to be there.

eta: I went to the Ravens game early in the year, and the Bengals game that closed it out.

I was at their last game ever, a 24 - 21 win over the Ravens in Baltimore at old Memorial Stadium.

I think I've told the story in here before about getting arrested for trespassing after I walked out onto the sideline to get Eddie George's autograph following the game.

Saw quite a bit of Oiler football that year...Jacksonville at home, Pittsburgh at home and at Three Rivers, at Atlanta, at New York (Jets) and the Ravens game. Was also at the last game ever at Memorial Stadium. Ravens vs (gag) Tennessee Oilers.

I know none of the current players have any nostalgia for the Oilers, but I hope the staff can convince them that the city of Houston will adore them if they beat the Titans in this game.

Just further proof they resemble their petty, hack owners, the Adamses. I’ve told people for years the Titans deserved more disdain from Texans fans and they continue to demonstrate why.

Remember the last time or one of the last times they did this? They lost 59-0 to the Pats. Sixty is a nice, round number.

Oh, I'm 100% sure that the entire organization will understand the mood of Houston and what that would mean to a whole bunch of their fans.

I'm kind of disappointed they aren't wearing those Uni's in Houston. Can you imagine how that would play? Epic.

I can barely remember watching Oilers games. Not sure I ever even attended a game. But even I would be fired up and mad af if they flaunted that in our stadium. That would be some serious taunting, and could really start a nasty rivalry. And we need one. Football is boring to me now.

Who are our rivals? Even when the Colts were good with Manning and we were always battling them for division, I didn't hate them. I didn't take immense pleasure in beating them. Never even really hated the Patriots. Rooted against the Cowboys, but mostly because everyone rooted for them.

tbh, I don't know if there are any sports now where I feel significantly towards a rival. Maybe Sooners? Yah, prob still them. It's 11:05 and OU still sucks. But besides that, everything seems so "meh" these days.

I think the Titans would get more disdain from Texans fans if they were a relevant team more often. It's hard to get worked up about a bottom tier franchise.

I view them kind of like the Utah Jazz, once upon a time they were heated rivals....nowadays, they are still disliked, but who really cares?

I remember watching the Texans vs Titans game on Monday Night Football back in 2009 at an absolutely packed bar....the second Rob Bironas made the game winning FG about a dozen fights broke out.

You'd just never have that level of intensity.....or requisite amount of Titans fans, for that kind of thing to happen today.
