More so the video was to show these people are not oppressed, I don't think they have been for a while or perhaps maybe never. Yeah, being gay was never widely accepted but I'd like to know how many young kids and teenagers that consider themselves gay or trans would be if it wasn't for this insane movement and social media. Confusing people from a young age can have extreme negative effects in the future. Sadly its political. Live's are being changed because of some sleezy politician.
Yeah, there was a clip on here of a scantily clad person in drag wearing a thong performing what could be a stripper routine around children... definitely inappropriate. Drag queens wearing dresses at the stadium is a big step away from that.
One of the few groups of people where even the community you were reared in can go total war against you. With ethnic groups that are oppressed there is still a strong community aspect of families that hold together strong against oppression and provide a safe space. But so many LGBTQ people especially trans folks don't even have that basic safe space as often their own family and local community is the one ostracizing them. This is why the LGBTQ community is disproportionately victims of sex trafficking because they find themselves homeless with no support.
The LGBTQ community as a whole has had a lot of oppression and has been stigmatized. The umbrella is so large that not all those in the LGBTQ+ community have had equal levels of oppression, but as a whole they have been marginalized and still are - especially outside the USA.
There is a reason why LGBTQ people disproportionately represent victims of sex trafficking. I believe the umbrella you are referring to is something common with all oppressed groups. Wealth alleviates a lot of the symptoms of oppression.
Transgendered people certainly are often trafficked and traditionally have been disowned by their families. I suspect we have seen some improvement in how transgendered people are treated in the USA over the last 5 or so years, but it is still a very marginalized group and the marginalization is across all demographics and financially levels. As for the umbrella - there is a growing sense in the queer community that the umbrella is too large, and some members of the LGBTQ+ have been in conflict or disagreement with other groups covered under the umbrella. I suspect at some point it will break into several groups.
LGBTQ are not monolithic and given there have been groups like the Log Cabin Republicans for a long time they are diverse like the rest of society in a variety of ways.
It has been fairly monolithic when it comes to voting patterns, it is something that the LGBTQ+ community has been proud of - however it is less monolithic than it has been in at least 20 years. There are fractures based on generational ages and also some strong divisions opening up between the queer and some in the trans community.
This no different than really religious people indoctrinating their children at a very early age. Children are not extensions of their parents and they need to stop pushing their agendas (regardless of agenda) on their children. I don’t know the context of this video, but I can speak of my own home and close knit family and have to deal with this on both ends of the spectrum.
Part of that was how much the current Republican Party went in on the culture war. The Log Cabin Republicans actually had clout 15 years ago with major Republicans courting them and there were conservative gays like Andrew Sullivan. Andrew Sullivan is a Never Trumper now. Just to add there is a gay republican member of the House, George Santos. Although he was also in a straight marriage and tomorrow could claim he’s always been straight.
To add “trans” is not the same “gay” or “lesbian” so it should be expected there are gays and lesbians who don’t feel that they should be under the same umbrella as trans. Also many Lesbian and gays don’t feel Bisexual should be under the same umbrella as them. All this talk of umbrellas overlooks the basic point that demonizing any of these groups for political advantage is wrong.
Dude it's literally a 10 second clip without zero context. And here's the difference. Acceptance from parents is probably the most important thing for child development and at the very least the "extreme" spectrum you refer to would never not accept a child for being cis or whatever while the other extreme end will decide what type of child to accept. That's a massive difference. Another massive difference is we have social media and the American zeitgeist basically spamming this issue of childhood indoctrination of these blue haired extremists indoctrinating children when religious indoctrination is far more common by 100 to 1000 fold but it's culturally accepted so the backlash to that amounts to some angry atheists in comment sections while the former backlash of something that happens way less often causes national attention, legislative bills in mass etc. It's absurd and I hate when people equivocate the two.
Thanks for saying this. I feel like people grasp at straws to find ways to attack the LGBTQ community. And the tactic of people in power dividing the community to attack one another is a common tactic of oppresors. I mean see the countless examples of western colonial rule and how they conquered (by creating divisions in local populations) It's irrelevant. Who cares if some gay people don't like trans people or vise versa. The important point here is that there is an unnatural addiction in the American zeitgeist against trans folks that stated like 2 years ago, around the time "Libsoftictock" became popular.
