Really infuriating from a fan's perspective. You want the manager to put his team in the best position to win. I didn't match up the two team's lineups, so there may be a reason for what Dusty does, but in such a critical series, experimentation seems unwise.
Diaz has a .600 OPS at DH... 1.100 at 1B... 1.000 at C Swapping Jon and Diaz seems an awesome move. Playing #125 is the catastrophe
I was thinking more from a defensive perspective. Singleton has a lot more experience at 1B than Diaz -- but what do I know, it's only the homestretch and we are fighting for a playoff spot. I guess I'll just take Diaz in the lineup - chalk that up for a win
So THIS is the game Dusty decides to play Diaz at 1B? Why couldn't we do this on the regular, so that we can see what his defense is like at 1B and get his potent bat in the lineup (and take Abreu's limp bat out)? Additionally, why does he keep batting Chas so low in the lineup, when he is clearly one of the best hitters on the team? I've liked what I've seen from Singleton, but Chas has been doing his thing all f'ing year, not just for a week, and deserves that 5th spot in the lineup over him. And don't get me started on Dubon at CF, a position he clearly has no business to be playing, especially over an elite defender, that has an arguably better bat, in Meyers. I honestly think Dusty has just lost his mind.
I expect Diaz at 1B means Brantley is close to coming back and they want to primarily use Brantley as DH and not at 1B or LF. That means getting Diaz into the lineup on days he’s not catching has to happen at 1B. They should have been giving him reps there earlier, but I view giving him reps there as a sign they want to get his bat in the lineup consistently going forward.
With Brantley and Alvarez playing , one has to be in LF and one has to DH, so there really isn't room for Diaz unless Baker decides to actually play him at catcher.
All the issues go away if Baker would just play Diaz at his best spot and take the worst bat in MLB history out of the lineup.
Just give Maldy a really cool title like ‘professional spirit captain’ or something and let work some magic from the dugout.. not the field
France has been rolling with Diaz behind the plate. Tomorrow night would have been a better night to put Diaz at 1B and DH singleton
Huge series, France has been money with Diaz, but Dusty decides to catch Maldy. This is the crap that has me done with Dusty. He talks about the vets being comfortable with Maldy, that’s why he’s in there majority of the time, but when it’s obvious France & Brown have more comfort with Diaz he catches maldy. To me it seems that it would be more important for the rookie to be comfortable than the vets who should be able to adjust better. Btw, this means Maldy all 3 games
