I could see Brown letting Bielak go if it means keeping Gusto or Tamarez with Cousins a dakhorse. I'm hoping Crane trades Urquidy for a Benenntendi type OF. Wonder if the D-Backs would trade one of there young OF'ers and reunite Urquidy with Strom?
Select games against LHP is the only way you fit him into the lineup. 1 out of 5. And Diaz is at 1B for those games. He should never (I don't mean never, but still...) start vs a RHP again this season.
Maybe he’s talking about next year (once Garcia is cleared to return) since there is some 2024 discussion in this thread.
For as much crap as Bregman has caught in this forum this year He is 5th in the AL in RBI and 9th in Runs scored That shows how instantly reactive everyone is every time a guy has a bad game
The bullpen is a sure way to limit his innings if you don't care about quality. There are better ways to try to preserve his arm than putting it in the pen.
On the runs scored, batting 2nd for the Astros has its privileges and they aren't limited to one player.
He has hit 2nd about 2/3 of his games. He also has a .366 ob% and .800 ops hitting 2nd which is his best in any lineup position. Pena is .329 and .757 I guess hitting in front of the big guys IS an advantage.
What is the run scored for Bregman batting 2nd versus not? I'd guess Bregman has a large portion of his runs scored batting 2nd (relative to number of PAs) and a large portion of his RBIs batting 4th. Batting in front and behind good hitters has its advantages though it isn't limited to one player(i.e., I want my best hitters batting consecutively). I'd rather give those advantages to better hitters as there is a synergy between good hitters (behind and in front).
Bregman isn't the player he was before the injuries, but he has overall be a very consistent positive player for the Astros. The glove is always there, and it is consistent - the walks and ability to hit high quality pitchers is there - as is the above average power. I know he goes up and down as a hitter - and at times his OPS floats between 700-800, but he typically is over 800 when the season ends. His career low in OPS+ is 112. He is a 4-6 WAR player pretty much every year and he can bat anywhere in the line up.
Top 10 in both runs and rbi Dude has produced and isn't overly liked by most on CF, which says way more about our posters than his play
And the one real outlier for Bregman was 19 which was the juiced ball year Other than that he has been about very very good. Just funny to me how good he is and how lowly he is thought of by so many
Agreed, but I think partially it's because of what he was like back in 2018. I wouldn't mind seeing Bregman stay an Astros for his whole career.
People forget (or don't know) how little minor league experience Garcia got. Went from the DSL in 17 to the Astros in 20, with a total of 65 innings at high A and nothing above that His injury is so unfortunate because he is just gonna get better and better and would have made a huge difference for us this year. Hell, if Garcia was healthy we probably still have Gilbert in our system
