He would do the exact same thing against a better defender. It's practically impossible to stop good scorers from scoring 1 v 1, team defense is what matters most and good individual defenders know how to leverage their teammates to play better defense. Green can easily blow by any defender, it's up to help defense to pressure him and force him into bad decisions (bad shot or bad pass). Even if it was Paul George guarding him, he would be doing the same thing as long as Chet Holmgren is applying 0 pressure at the rim on defense. There is nothing to evaluate in this video (or any other scrimmage videos for that matter) other than that Green is active in scrimmages against quality NBA players, unless people want to make conclusions that Holmgren is not particularly good at guarding the rim.
I don’t care that there wasn’t much defense being played like it’s an Allstar game. I saw quick, clean, decisive moves and finishing with ease. Looks stronger and more in control of his tempo while at the same time being explosive. This is a big year for Jalen and Alp for that matter. 3rd year guys need to take the team by the reigns
There is one thing that can be taken away from this and that is Kevin Huerter was measured at the combine at 6' 6.25' without shoes, and 6' 7.25'' with shoes. Austin Rivers' combine measurements were 6' 3.5'' without shoes and 6' 5'' with shoes. Angles aren't very clear here, but Green doesn't like 3 inches shorter than Huerter, but he is also visibly taller than Rivers. Green being about 6'5 ish without shoes seems about right.
I know i know, i just wanted try a new way to express - I've been bored to death during offseason. I mean We all know what jG can bring to the table right? We've watched two seasons of his games. no matter it's him jumping high for an alleyoop or running 200mph into the lane (look behind all defenders in his rearview mirror), i wouldn't be impressed anymore, that's simply first-year second-year jG. In coming season I wanna see a brand new jG, who can offensively contribute steadily EVERY NIGHT…AND most important of all pick up his games on defensive end of floor.
One day I'm going to start a Barefoot Basketball League so that interminable internet shoeless measurement discussion can realize their true and full growth potential.
Best thing about being with team usa and participating in these scrimmages is that hes consistently been around some of the best players in the world. Hopefully hes learned some thing by observing and being around these elite players.
His ability to create seperation is effortless. Alpi Green DHO combo is going to be absolutely deadly.
