Yeah- basically the nerds have won and we now know who should play where and how they should hit. The only thing a manager can do is wreck the clubhouse or make really stupid player decisions that fly in the face of all logic and reason. Most managers aren't big enough idiots to do that. Dusty, alas, is.
You still need a manager to be the therapist for the team, but that should be it. Roster and lineups should be done with stats and probability.
I agree with this. Also, routine helps. Give players set lineup spots so they know who will be ahead/behind them, know where they are and what's expected of them based on that spot day in and day out.
Some people (Dusty) just stay too long. I really, really think he should have retired as a World Series Champion. What a way to go out. What a way to end a long illustrious career. BUT he missed that opportunity, and now he is the "bad guy."
Who says he missed it. They have as good a chance as any to win it again. ( if Dusty isn't making the playoff lineups)
He's doing EVERYTHiNG you DONT want or expect a "letyanutshang" manager to do.... dont make no sense. If this clubhouse is scratching & crawling their way through the WC round-- we dont deserve to be in the playoffs or have a shot and defending the title (BECAUSE THATS WHY DYNASTIES F'N DO Manager Man)
I definitely want Dusty gone but if Astros win the WS this season...I'll welcome him back with open arms. I'll just go back to wanting him fire next season like any normal fan would.
My main issue with Dusty is the maddening inconsistency in his lineups. I get it when we are struggling - an attempt to shake things up and all; but, when things are going well? Why mess with what is working? It's like the adage of "riding the hot hand" is completely lost upon him. You went 4-4 today? Sit down tomorrow. It's your scheduled day off. Good grief, this is the stretch run! You gotta ride with the horse(s) that got you there...in the position(s) they are most successful in. This from a fan who nearly cried when Skip won his 1st title.
I think some People had an issue with Hinch but it was mostly related to Game 7, 2019, which I still contend he managed just fine and it didn’t work out is all.
Exactly. So people up in arms that Hinch didn't bring in Cole, well what Cole were you going to get. The one who got shelled in gm1 and gave up five runs in 7 innings or the one who only gave up one run in 7 innings in gm5?
