As long as ESPN pumps out that’s all that matters, then that’s all that will matter. They control the narratives that matter in sports business.

Right - I'm not saying anything specific about UT. Just that "money" and "popularity" aren't necessarily intertwined. All sports are generating more and more money but it doesn't mean they are getting more popular.

We'll see if they are right. I suspect for a few years, they will be, simply due to all the fun new matchups. Over the long-haul, I'm not so sure.

I gave Klavikoff a lot of slack but these schools sabotaged themselves. Not to mention a few of them took inexplicable shots at the Big 12 along the way.

Hypothetically, how much would you have paid on top of Apple + to watch PAC 12 sports?

If I’m doing the math right, they would’ve needed over 2 million paid subscribers at that price point to make what the Big 12 was offering.

For reference, Apple just surpassed 1M MLS Season Pass subscribers after the Messi boost. Interestingly enough that package is exactly $80 for the season. Sunday Ticket has apparently been bleeding subscribers as well with just over 2M subscribers currently.

Always thought that a subscription based PAC service would’ve been disastrous. Apparently the schools ultimately came to the same conclusion.

Yeah, I don't see how they would've gotten to that 2M number. Sure sports bars would've bought the package (as they do in Austin for Austin FC matches), but it would've been a tall order to generate nationwide demand for the Pac-12 exclusively on Apple.

Has Sunday Ticket been hurting since it moved to YouTube TV or is it a broader trend?

Not completely sure but looks like it was already on the decline before they left DirecTV. Think you can argue it's part of a broader trend when you combine that with TNF numbers on Prime last season. You can basically watch football four days a week without having to pay an additional subscription.

Funny thing with the PAC is they talking about kept betting on themselves. But when it came down to actually doing it, they all folded like cheap lawn chairs.

Trying not to take this too seriously given the forum but still a very unprofessional comment.
