One of my calves felt kind of tight after long flights and also after tennis. Having spent 33 days (33 x 24 hours) on flights in the last 16 months, I thought it could be a good idea to look into something to maybe help reduce the risk of DVTs a little.

After doing a little bit of research, I came across this:

    https://mashable.com/review/hyperice-normatec-go

Here is an article about how devices like this might help reduce the risk of DVTs a little.

    https://www.hopkinsmedicine.org/hea...on-intermittent-pneumatic-compression-devices

So I bought these, and, subjectively, it feels like they at least help recovery after sports quite nicely. The weird tense feeling in that one calf is gone. And because they are very portable, I am planning to take them on some of my longer flights.

    (not an advert, lol)

Interesting. And it's a good thing to stay aware of if you fly so much.

Haven't watched the whole video, but would compression socks (on long flights) also help, as a simple alternative, and after tennis? I know a lot of people getting a lot of good out of compression socks, and I even wore some on my last long haul flight.

Yes, possibly to reduce the risk of DVTs. I find them quite uncomfortable after a while, I have to admit. And they are not so much for recovery.

Interesting. Wasn’t aware of DVTs before this. I’ll keep my eye out for it.

Also, Hyperice Normatec, Go! sounds like something they would say on Power Rangers before combining into their giant robot.

My gym has the full leg version that they place on a chaise lounge for anyone to use. Not sure if they monitor it to make sure ppl shower before use, so I haven’t tried it yet. :)

You're not a very good Rockets fan then.

    Oh, thank you SO MUCH.

I’ve always wondered how to quantify ‘a very good Rockets fan’ and the mystery is solved right here right now by grace of God.

Everyone, if you want to be a good fan, get some sort of medical degree so you know that when they say ‘blood clot’ you know what type and how it’s caused. Then come back here and ask @Buck Turgidson bestow upon you the prodigious title.

@Cluch please create two new titles for every member ‘a very good Rockets fan’ and ‘not a very good Rockets fan’ that only Buck can bequeath.

Praise the lord, great days are ahead.

Well, you certainly can't be on my (non-existent) Rockets trivia team.

You should have learned about deep vein thrombosis when it sidelined Hakeem in the late '80s

Not even kidding, but anytime I hear "deep vein thrombosis", I think "Olajuwon" and his pantyhose he had to wear. lol.

Yes, I was ~9 years old for Phi Slamma Jamma and saw his entire career, so much fun.

Who were the German hoops stars at that time?

I guess Uwe Blab came shortly after that.

You don't even claim Detlef? I know he went to HS and College in the US, but c'mon have some pride.

imagine paying Morant to do your ad and his voice has the energy of reading a dictionary's table of contents in a closet.

Interesting. I do some long flights to Asia and don’t wear compression socks but DVTs is a concern. I might look into these.

Det The Threat was the one who initially got me interested in the NBA (then I moved to Houston for a year, and the rest is history). Somehow my memory got muddled up and I thought Uwe Blab and Chris Welp (RIP) came to the US before him, but that was wrong.
