Nobody could touch Slayer when it came to thrash metal. Nobody could really touch Bathory when it came to black metal AND Viking metal.

My God - if you have never heard Viking metal, you will simply not believe it.

Pantera were the groove metal kings and outside of Sepultura and Prong and a handful of lesser known bands, not many other heavy metal bands went down that path.

This summer, I listened to black metal, Viking metal, death metal, and doom metal- they are all worthy of your attention- I tried power metal and speed metal but I couldn’t really get into those.

Tool is the best in prog metal along with Dream Theater and Opeth. I love Porcupine Tree but it might be a stretch to consider them as a metal band…definitely a prog rock band, though.

Just because you mentioned those last couple bands... ever check out Devin Townsend?

The argument between Metallica and Pantera to me is an easy nod to Pantera. Dime was god. True story here, I got ****in lit after his death and ended up in a coke head's apartment where he was giving out $50 tattoos to make rent. Me and the boys lined up and got our ink. I got a Texas, on fire, with the "CFH" logo to memorialize my favorite guitarist. Except homie was coked up and drew bubble letters before I knew it. So it looks like some high school girl tattooed a flaming Texas with bubble letters. Not even the worst tat I've ever gotten. I'm gonna get it covered up soon, finally. I've been using it as an opportunity to teach my son to make good choices with permanent body art.

But you're getting it covered up, so what's the lesson? Buy nice or buy twice?

The lesson is no bubble letters lol

Buy nice I guess. Do it right the first time. Think about it first. Deciding on it while you're drunk in some crackhead's apartment is not the way to make body art decisions!

I'm going to say Metallica just because I'm not a big Pantera fan, but I'll take the underdog Manowar over either of them. Best epic, fantasy, and norse/greek mythology heavy metal band that has ever existed.

Metallica they are the biggest band in the world still for a reason. This Pantera reunion thing is cool, but it wouldn't have happened if the Abbott brothers were still alive.

You should probably expand the lesson to be.... "question any decision you make while drunk in some crackhead's apartment" and not limit it to just body art. :)

    How about Infant Annialateor vs.
Too bad this amazing story is hidden in this thread and most people won't even see it. Their loss!

Metallica played to 1.6m people in Russia in 1991. So there’s that.
