This is always the most stunning part for me - when you knowingly compromise your free will for the money, you can’t cry that someone is holding you accountable to the contract you said you wanted to agree to very recently. If I apply for a job and accept the offer because I like the signing bonus and THEN say I want to go to a different company and cry that I don’t want to lose the signing bonus - like who does that?

…the sad thing is - I’m sure he has some legit beef with Morey over the years but this is all kinds of dumb from Harden and feeds the entitlement narrative that has plagued his career….and it’s a shame because the reality is he HAS worked really hard to improve his game and he HAS sacrificed for the betterment of some of his teams, and he has changed the game in a really dramatic way….but he threatens to throw all of that away by just reinforcing the stupid narrative game.

Right, finally can take a break hearing about Stone trading our precious former FRPs to give Dillon a lot of money.

Still getting through the thread, I don't know if Morey promised more money then lied to Harden after he took a pay cut and now won't trade him. Losing 10-20 million would make many fans here pretty angry. I do know that Harden has had diva instances in the past for sure, but Morey has lied to us in the past so his track record isn't great.

Daryl Morey stepping down as Houston Rockets GM

"For me, it was just a great run," Morey told ESPN on Thursday night in a telephone conversation that also included Fertitta. "Personally, the timing worked for me. My youngest son just graduated from high school, and it was just the right time to see what's next with family and other potential things in the future. It just felt like the right time."

Would Philly's owner fire Mornay if it helped keep Harden?:D

The Sixers will waive him in 2 seconds if they get the sense that Embiid is over it and doesn’t want to deal with the locker room mess.

If the Clippers are literally the only suitor then there’s nothing of value Morey is getting for him anyways. Moreys not going to mess around with screwing up with Embiid just to try to squeeze an extra 2nd round pick from the Clips.

Ideally Morey will want him to come play and create more value for his market later in the season or just have a really good expiring contract year.

In my opinion, majority of the blame goes to Harden on this one. Harden gets at least 98% while Morey gets the other 2%. Whether Morey misled Harden to believe he would give him a max contract this offseason is irrelevant. Harden wasn’t giving charity to the Sixers. He left Houston because he said he wanted to compete for a championship. The money he passed on was used to build a more competitive roster to win a championship which he failed to do…again. Not even making it to the Easter Conference Finals. Harden had to know that his next contract depended on how he performed in the playoffs. If not, he’s delusional. He’s complaining about not getting his money, what about not winning a championship all those years Morey bent over backwards for him? It goes both ways.

He would have signed for us, then demanded to be traded to Philadelphia and then demanded a trade to the Clippers.

It's like @Mathloom trying to kill his grandfather and baby Hitler with a time machine - the timeline can't be altered.

I think Harden definitely gets blame for sure, no absolution there, but Morey has a track record as well. Honestly the Harden trade helped make Morey's career, if it didn't happen and he was 9th seed each year with a collection of role players and no first superstar to attract others how long would his tenure have been? Morey wrote whole articles about it.

I think everyone is accountable, but I'm not going to ignore either one's history personally. Looks like karma for both potentially, and glad we're not the team involved and moving forward.

In the end Harden is making Morey look like a fool for believing in him. Morey is partly to blame because he enabled his poor behavior in Houston, but he did what any franchise would do…appease their superstar player while trying to build a competitive roster around him. It was Harden who failed to live up to his superstar billing and deliver the championship. I’m usually pro player on these issues, but the entitlement shown by Harden over the years is appalling. Maybe you can criticize Morey for trading again for Harden in Philly, but he had Ben Simmons and no one wanted him either, so flipping him for a chance to see what a Harden/Embiid duo would look like was a win at the time.
