Ain’t happening this season. Most likely in the offseason. I just hope Dana doesn’t let the pitchers talk him into bringing Maldy back.

If one player is supposed to be the difference between scoring runs or not, especially a rookie, this team is ****ed. No amount of b****ing can drown that fact out.

For my own sanity I’m boycotting games started by Maldy for a while. All it does is frustrate me the entire game watching the inferior player get to start what seems like 80% of the games at catcher. Has there ever been another MLB franchise knowingly play the inferior player 3 to 4 times as much as his counterpart?
When Díaz finally bats at the end it just pisses me off more. Unfair to him that he sits for the majority of games and is expected to be able to competently hit once at the end.

That rookie would be ROY and an all-star.

That rookie is better offensively and defensively than that one player.

That one player gave up the lamest run-scoring passed ball ever and wouldn’t be playing on any other team in the league.

That’s all true. Despite it being the consensus among the fanbase, I promise you they aren’t losing these games because that one player isn’t playing.

The offense has been inconsistent the whole year and when the team wasn't healthy I didn't think this team was good enough to win the AL west, make a real run, etc. Now that they are pretty healthy, Dusty still hasn't put a consistent, optimal lineup out there yet. How can the offense build a rhythm like that? Maldy continuing to play so much is just fuel on the fire really. It's also been off-putting the increased sense of entitlement Maldy has shown when he feels he's about to be replaced. I've seen Maldy in a different light because of the entitlement and don't feel he is the leader the organization feels he is. So to keep catering to a guy like that is just frustrating. Dusty and Maldy's legacy anything short of another big time run in the playoffs is pretty tarnished with a lot of the fan base at this point even after the gratifying WS win last year.

I can't wait to read the comments around here when the Astros extend Maldonado.

Every team has one player like Maldy in the lineup he isn’t the main reason for us sucking and Diaz swings at some bad pitches also. It’s the stars that are not producing enough

Diaz is a star. He’s just not allowed to play.

Well, my podcast has been PG up until this point. It’s getting an explicit tag today for my Baker/maldonado rant. If that’s your thing please give it a listen tomorrow when I post it in the season thread. If it’s not your thing you can skip forward to the 15 minute mark or so when we talk about the greatness of Jose Altuve.
Now, the only proper palate cleanser for the last 2 games is to go stick my head in the oven.

Mariners just came back in the 9th inning. They’re now up. They were strike away on a 2 out 0-2 count from losing the game and scored 3 to take the lead.

One player can make a difference in baseball.

We've had games where one player single-handedly won a game by hitting a timely homerun or even a base hit to extend an inning. The thing is to have players that have the best odds of being that person.

Meyers has won games for us with his bat, but I'd say he may be in the ten percentile meaning once every 10 games he could be the difference maker in a game. Maldy is hardly EVER the difference maker where as Diaz could be 15%.

The issue becomes clear when you put in a guy like Maldy along with guys like Dubon and Meyers, giving your team a very low success rate of getting a timely hit when it matters. Today, if Maldy wasn't in the lineup then Meyers bats 9th and Diaz bats 6th or 7th. The bases loaded situation early on could have been with Diaz and Meyers and not Meyers and Maldy (better odds of something happening to extend the inning). Even one extra run could change the outcome with Framber possibly not going into the 7th and we hold the tie (Who knows) but the odds are better.

Now we can't put the same players in every game, and with Maldy we can still win 55% of games I'm sure.... but if we were able to replace a none difference maker with a guy that can push the lineup down the order a bit, then perhaps Diaz 15% chance of being a difference maker allows us to win 5 or 10 more games a year.

I'm still under the impression that Baker makes his lineups to create rest for the playoffs, which is why I'll wait until October to post again in this forum. until then, I'm out.

Safe to say the improbable grand slam against the best closer in baseball, less than just one week ago... was in fact not a turning point??
